I going to learn to teach yoga on my travels in India 1 month ago

lolamiteSecond Yoga class

I taught my 2nd class on the 31st, and it was a blast! I saw how important it was to connect with all the students before the class, it made everything go a lot smoother and we even had some laughs in class.
I also saw how important it was to have a solid class planned out, and to run through it several times. This way, you won’t have too many brain-farts and say “Uh, uh, uh” over and over. haha

So, needless to say, this experience was a whole lot better than last week. I found myself settling more into the role of the teacher, and carrying that confidence in my knowledge and execution of the Asanas. Of course I still have tons to learn, and will be learning for the rest of my life, but this positive experience was reassuring to me that I will make an exceptional teacher down the line.

Tomorrow I am going to be teaching a group of girls that my husband and I have been communing with lately. We met them at a Kirtan gathering, where we also heard a lecture on the Vedas. Since then, we’ve been invited by them to other gatherings, and to dinner. These girls are so bright and beautiful and in touch with their spirituality in a way that is inspirational to me. It’s made me open to my Bhakti Yoga path again. I’m stoked to practice Asanas with these girls and learn things from them as well.

lolamiteMy first class!

So I had my first class earlier this week.
For me, it was a mixed bag of emotions.

During the class, I was UBER nervous, but I pulled through. Once I calmed down, it was a very smooth class.

Here’s the thing: The girls were looking for something a little less meditative a little more butt-kicking. haha They wanted more of a “workout” So the slow Movement Meditation wasn’t a hit, BUT, I’m getting a second chance next week to up the ante.
They enjoyed the movement, the stretches, but just wanted more of it. The last 20 minutes of class was a seated Meditation.

There was one lady in the class who was more used to Hot Yoga, which is a much more strenuous workout. She didn’t have the patience to follow what I was saying, and randomly started doing a bunch of Advanced postures and long Sun Salutations.
At first I didn’t think this was rude, until I thought about it after class. Even during the seated Meditation she was still moving around.
Instead of getting really mad about it, I decided to just note that she didn’t have the patience to slow down and open herself to something that doesn’t necessarily let her show off all of her flexibility and whatnot. Now I see what Teachers mean when they say it’s important to keep “Beginner’s Mind”.
I’m excited to have this opportunity to hone my teaching skills and learn more and more. Wish me luck! 2 years ago

When I decided to teach Yoga, I wanted it to be more than just a workout, I really did. I wanted it to really be a way of stretching and balancing the body in preparation for Meditation. But it seems that people have different definitions for what "real" Yoga is.
Anyhow, I am going to give them a more intense asana practice next week, but still try to stay true to my intention as a teacher.

lolamiteBoooo and Yay!

Well, the office gym lesson didn’t happen.
Reason being because neither one of us realized that we were 2 hours apart!
We had everything planned out, and then when she gave me the address, it was a no-go.
HOWEVER, I’m not giving up yet.
I’m supposed to teach a class this coming Sunday at a Synagogue, and I’ve been making plans with a few other people about teaching Meditation.
Things are moving!

I’ll let everyone know how Sunday goes! 2 years ago

lolamiteAnother opportunity!

This Thursday I will be teaching at an Office gym. It’ll be a private lesson with probably only 1 or 2 people, which is perfect for my first actual class. I’m so excited!

I got this position by putting an ad on Craigslist as a Yoga/Meditation Teacher looking to work for free. Though this position is offering a tiny bit of money, the other reply I got, or the synagogue, is for free. Both are amazing opportunities and I’m going to (try to) approach it all with confidence!

Wish me luck! 2 years ago

lolamiteI have a lead!

There is a possibility that I’ll be teaching Yoga at a Synagogue here in Louisville!
I put up an ad on Craigslist, and got a reply less than a week later. We’ll see if this really pans out! I’m super excited, but at the same time kind of nervous. Wish me luck! 2 years ago

lolamiteYoga is love!

Ever since my best friend on Earth, Kri, introduced Yoga to me (she’s a Yoga Teacher), it has lead down a spiritual path that is flourishing more and more everyday. The inspiration that she gave me is what I want to share with other people who feel like they’re lost, like I did. Yoga truly is a gift, and Yoga truly is Love. 2 years ago

After doing yoga videos for two years, I finally upped the ante and joined a studio. And what new poses and routines I’ve learned! I’ve stumbled on something that makes me happy, and I’d like to share it while also getting over my chronic shyness. :)
