Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

make my house presentable enough for unexpected guests

Ever_Losing_LeeWorking on it - one room at a time!

I am one lazy housewive. Needless to say my apartment looks like hell.

So I’m attacking the chaos now – one room at a time for 30 minutes. I’ll do whatever I’ll get done in that time and leave the rest for next week’s half hour.

Hopefully by the time summer comes I’ll be done with all 6 rooms. 2 years ago

aborealis77330 minutes a night

I’ve been doing well at this goal. The trick is to remain consistent and to keep it short. After dinner, I clean whatever needs cleaning for about thirty minutes, though sometimes it turns into an hour. But the main public areas are presentable. 4 years ago

aborealis773Presentable Again

The main areas of the house are presentable again. My mother bought me an excellent lightweight DirtDevil vaccuum she found at a thrift store. It sucks up everything but the trade off, which I’m quite willing to put up with, is that it’s extremely loud. Sounds like you really have a dirt devil working inside the tiny dust compartment, going nuts for you.

I’m also in the process of throwing away extraneous papers. Amazing how obsolete things get when you leave them for a year and gain perspective. 5 years ago

aborealis773Clean clean clean

It’s been a while since I’ve visited this goal, and it’ll be a while before I entertain in the house. But this is still an important goal. My focus here will be to completely clean and declutter the house from January to April, the first quarter of the new year. Because when I am put on bedrest, I won’t be able to clean at all, and I want to make things as simple as possible for my husband and anyone else who may be helping out. 5 years ago

aborealis773Sunday, August 10, 2008

I cleaned the kitchen completely, again. Sigh. I absolutely love a clean kitchen, but it always seems to get dirty so quickly and it takes me a great amount of time to talk myself into cleaning it.

Next week, I’m scheduling another couple of hours to cleaning it. I still have to do the bathroom today. And am currently decluttering the closet.

It’s odd but since I posted this goal, I seem to be entertaining guests several times a month, so there is a necessity to keep it moderately presentable. 6 years ago

TLSCThere's nothing like

having the owners of your rental property want to have the house valued to shake you up into doing a serious clean.

The house was really embarrassing without realising it. It’s now nearly 100% ok. I need to wash all the windows (of which there are many) and continue with decluttering and do the garden and I’ll be happy! 6 years ago

TLSCUnexpected guests...

please drop by. The house is in good order in the living/kitchen areas and best of all my DH did it ALL!!! :-D Hooray for going away for a few days and coming home to a clean house. 6 years ago

TLSCA mini goal within this one...

To get our lounge suite steam cleaned and fix up the broken part of it. Really, I just want to turf it. I’ve always hated it (poor Tyrone who really wanted it) and some feral children that came to stay with us last year, jumped on the top all over it and the stuffing has come out of the middle part of the back rest. So I need to restuff it and sew it back up. Easy enough to do I hope. Also want to get it steam cleaned as it is looking quite grotty and not at all I want for all of those unexpected guests that never unexpectedly arrive! 6 years ago

aborealis773Spare Bedroom

I vaccuumed and rearranged the furniture today. I want to make it comfortable and inviting, a beautiful place to be. Which means that slowly I’d like to switch out a few ratty, old things and put in some new ones. A rough list:

1. new sleep pillows
2. pretty reading lamp
3. short bookcase
4. night stand
5. radio/cd player
6. plants
7. new mattress sheets
8. quilt 6 years ago

aborealis773Living room

I didn’t do anything major with it. Cleaned off my desk and polished it. Cleaned the windows and dusty ledges, vaccuumed. Rearranged a few things. But on the whole, it looks and feels so much fresher, AND roomier. There are some things I have not done yet, like displaying our framed photos, going through the magazine piles, and the stack of receipts and paperwork. But these aren’t necessary for this goal.

Today I’ll be starting with the guest room. I really want to get a few pieces of furniture for it, like a night stand, cute lamp, etc. It’s currently our dumping ground for excess stuff right now. 6 years ago
