attend more concerts

...More Chris Thile October 20th. Can you guess who invited me? This one should be interesting. It’s part of the Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour which takes place in Lexington. Sounds cute huh?

Our evening with the Punch Brothers was quite amazing. L.C and I got into Louisville around 5 p.m., stopped and got Subway for dinner and then ate on the steps of the church where the show was to be held. After that, we went to get in line and discovered that “Oh my god, there are only 4 people ahead of us.” Yep, we had front row seats, only they weren’t so much seats as round caffeteria tables and chairs. So really, we scored front row lunch table seats! The people that we sat with were the 2 newly wed couples, and a random who I never actually got her name, but she was a spunky gal.

As for the show itself; not quite surreal, but very enjoyable. I wasn’t too familiar with their music. I knew it was Bluegrass, and that’s about it. Again aside the fact that I was already familiar with the lead man, Chris Thile of Nickel Creek

looking at going to ACL in sept. figure that should count for a concert ;)

Lovely Christine is obsessed with both, that’s what!
But other than that, nothing.

Last week I had recieved a text from L.C that said, “The Punch Brothers (Chris Thile!), Louisville, 8-8-08, $15.00! Do you want in?” I am in fact so in that I arrived back to work late after lunch today because she and I walked over to CD Central to buy our tickets.

I’m mostly looking forward to staring at Chris Thile for a few hours. Trust me, the $15.00 is totally worth it.

By the way, Kevin is the man who is coordinating the concert at the church. Christine had me call him several times yesterday to get as much information as I could about the concert. She also told me to butter him up and try to get us backstage. Of course I did not do this because Kevin never actually answered my call. His voicemail was pretty funny though. The phone stops ringing and then all of the sudden this music starts playing in the background and he comes on and says, “This is Kevin. Take a few moments to enjoy the tunes and then leave me a message and I’ll get back with you. Thanks!” His personal message was totally recorded on speaker phone, and in case you care at all, I hate speaker phones. You can never hear what the person is saying when you’re the one on the other line, and when you aren’t the person on the other line, you can hear the person who IS on speaker phone shouting from their office down the hall. It’s very annoying. But getting back to the story. Christine ended up talking to him today and apparently he is really cool and laid-back, young sounding, and has great taste in music. She and him (so she claims) talked about Chris Thile for a good 10 minutes before going off about several other artists that they both enjoy. Talk about connection.

My friend Christine (who I should probably refer to as Lovely Christine. She is gorgeous, hilarious, sweet, smart, quarky, trendy, and listens to the best music. It amazes me that she is without a boyfriend!) and I have this love for David Gray (a recent discovery. I had no idea that she liked him up until last week.) We have decided that we would totally take a trip to see him live. Traveling plus concerts; does it get better?

going to see them june 20 in san antonio—i am so stoked!!

We went to project revolution which was fun, but I really want to go see Incubus next weekend and I decided not too for a stupid reason. Lame!!

Got tickets for Lyle Lovett and His Large Band :o)

My first concert of the year … in JULY. I better get cracking.

My mother’s Christmas gift to me was the “get-a-life” package of 3 concerts playing in my area that she knew I would like. I attended the third on Saturday night.

Natalia Zuckerman, the opening act, blew my mind with her hung-fu guitar stylings, and I want to go see her at Passim this Friday.

Girlyman is playing at Passim also in a couple of weeks, and I want to get Carbonleaf tickets for the 31st.

MOST DISAPPOINTING. I was at first alarmed at the amount of FUCK (the f-bomb) being dropped by the lead singers. Now, I know, I know, it’s a concert right?
However, the mother part in me comes out—there are KIDS in the audience (which also leads me to question those individuals that would bring children to see a band like Motley Crue). It’s just unnecessary.

SECONDLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, after a 45 minute break to change the stage, Aerosmith played for a mere 1.25 hours—Driver seems to think they played for only 45 minutes. Either way, the concert was over at 10:30! The encore was ONE SONG LONG. I feel cheated. I thought I knew some Aerosmith songs. Apparently not. Out of the entire hour, I knew 4, count’em 4 songs, one was the encore.

I am most disappointed. And out $350. Damn
