I’ve been in college almost a year, and I declared my History major within the first two weeks of being here. I’m absolutely loving it. 5 years ago
Entries from everyone
I majored in History at Utah State and have no regrets. History teaches causality, or why things are the way they are. Unlike what the 1970s bumper sticker says, shit doesn’t just happen. History actually tells you why shit happens (and keeps happening).
With my history degree I’ve…
1. Taught English in Taiwan & Korea (twice).
2. Worked in southern Idaho as a contract archaeologist.
3. Joined the Marine Corps Reserve and “played” in Iraq.
4. Worked as a librarian at the General Accounting Office in DC.
5. Worked at Waldenbooks in Concord, CA.
6. Taught middle school in south Los Angeles (big shout out to the kids at Bethune MS on 69th & Broadway).
Although you can’t really expect to work in the “history” field, you can still do a lot of cool stuff with the degree. 5 years ago
For some, majoring in History is a waste of time. To me, it was a wonderful opportunity to stop, think and learn about the past to better understand the present. 6 years ago
Oh. I’m still a senior in highschool.. But I’m now getting started at the “applying to colleges” thing (How scary!) and I have no idea where I want to go, or what I want to do. n_n
I want to major in European History or Art History, with a minor in… Art- since I’ve spent all of my highschool career painting, drawing & other silly fun-with-crayons type things. I want to continue with that, but not as a job.
I’d like to major in History; Love to, really… but it’s kind of hard to think about. I think most jobs require advanced degrees or teaching experience. The first I could do? Probably? But I don’t want to teach—errrr?
Anyway, yeah! I’d like to major in History! I think I’ll ignore all of the difficulties and just go for it!
I’m a can-do kinda person, anyway~ ♥ 6 years ago
I’m a history major. I love history, but i think i might change it. It saddens me, I would have loved to be a history teacher or maybe work in a museum, but I need to get out of college. I’m burnt out and I’m not enjoying the classes, even the ones i know deep down i do. I need to get out get a job and then i’ll come back, finish the history thing and become the best history teacher. 7 years ago
History is quite the course – it covers anything from medieval history right up to modern history. With a History major, you can easily study units on the Vikings at the same time as studying Russia in the 20th century, or the Crusades as well as Revolutionary China.
The people at the History department are fantastic. The friendliest department on campus. 7 years ago
