One of my biggest challenges with a home practice is accepting that even if I don’t have and hour or more to practice, I can still do something worthwhile. And I’ve gotten better about this over the last couple years, even if I fall off the wagon from time to time. I’m ok with 20 minutes in the a.m. before work if that’s all the time or energy I can muster. But feeling pretty lousy since the start of the year has challenged this further – and maybe that’s a good thing. I practiced 2x in week one (both fairly short) and last week I put in one quick 15 minute practice and one that consisted of 5 minutes of Legs-up-the-wall. Because that was all I could muster. But I’m starting to feel ok about that. And good about the fact that I did even that. And am realizing that even if I’m not feeling well, there are poses I could do that would not be too taxing or make me feel worse, in fact, they might actually make me feel better. So Sunday, shoulderstands for tummy troubles, and savasana. And that was it. And that was ok. With this kind of theory 2x/week could turn to 5x of mini practices ;) We’ll see. I’m still working toward at least 2 and if they are short or modified or even one pose, so be it. I’ll work up from there!

Year of Yoga
I signed on for Lolly’s Year of Yoga, and my goal is to practice 2+ times per week. I opened the year with a short but sweet practice on new year’s day to ease into it after having been “off” for a couple months. Then was not feeling well all weekend – to bed early last night and an early morning practice this morning, feels great. :)

...and a couple hours later, my body still feels extra good. Plus, my teacher was joined by a wonderful Indian musician in class, who softly plucked a stringed instrument and sang with a deep chocolately voice as we melted into long yin poses. What a nice surprise.

but I’m afraid to make that a goal because then I would just fall short.
Anyway, I went last Weds and it was greaaat. so glad I did.

Yay. It feels good.
Eventually I want to work back up to doing the really vigorous athletic classes once a week or so. Right now, I’m just going to the supermellow stretchy teacher. I do love her teaching but I don’t get the same kind of high afterwards.

I didn’t go to yoga for a month what with trips, work stress and then a bad cold. Tried to go a couple days ago and realized when I got into the changing room that I had forgotten my yoga clothes. Finally tonight I made it and I feel great.
I need to write “Yoga” in my calendar on the nights when my favorite teacher is teaching. That helps me start expecting I’ll go. Then instead of going to yoga if I have time, I work other things around yoga, which is much better.

went to yoga tonight for the first time in a couple weeks and reminded myself all over again why it’s so good for me! glad I went, even though there was a sub teaching the class. she was actually good.
it’s going to be a challenge to fit yoga in over the next couple weeks as I get ready for burning man, and squeeze in a backpacking trip, and work my stressful job! If I can do a bit of home yoga practice in the mornings before work, that might save my neck (literally!).

I went to yoga class tonight, lots of deep stretches, glad I did. I’m going on vacation on Friday so that might be my last class for a while. Debating whether to take my mat with me to the Adirondacks and NYC. Will I really use it?
