We went to the ob / gyn today and found out that we have a bouncing baby coming on September 7th(ish)! But our good news was immediately followed by the disconcerting news that the little guy has a small cyst in his brain. The doc said that she is not worried and that we shouldn’t be either but how can you help it? We go in for a closer look next week or so and we are trying to just stay positive until then. Owing to the fact that I was adopted, this lil guy will be the first person whom I have ever met who is genetically related to me! We’re thinking August Jack (-) for his name right now but I’m sure that’ll change a million times. Need to start practicing diaper changing! 3 weeks ago
Just figured out that I’ll still be taking (2) classes in the Fall so my schedule will not be totally free to receive and care for the baby (due 9/9/13-ish).
Also talked to the wife about me needing to definitely pick up some kind of work to offset the 30% pay-cut that she’ll experience as part of her otherwise very accomodating and generous FMLA-related leave that her work provides.
It’d be real nice to make that work some how teaching-related since that’s what I’ll be going into. It is not hard to find student teaching jobs but the only thing is that I think most of them are interns (not paid or paid poorly). Maybe substitute teaching would be a good option here. I want to re-watch it since I haven’t seen it since it came out and I seem to remember him being a good father in that movie. Now that I’m thinking about it, I remember that “Fast Food Nation” actually had a good father figure in it, but not “There Will Be Blood,” even though the father in “Oil,” the book by Up Sinclair that TWBB is based on, was pretty great in complete contrast to D.D.Lewis’ rendering. 2 months ago

Maybe Fathers Day should be more of a mutual appreciation instead of the fathers day gift. I spent the day with my daughter at the Zoo and the day before bike riding. After all, really what we have is the time together more than the gift. 11 months ago
