I am continuing my reading of How to Practice, but finding it really hard to follow. Philosophically the purpose of Budhism is to find the emptiness of things (object, ideas, everything) as a final truth. I really got lost at this part. The author makes a point to say it is only after you have mastery over other parts that you can understand it. I want to finish it to get a larger idea, but I hope to come back to it when I need to refocus my emotion.

I wish I read this book earlier. It was written by the former head of the FDA and approaches looking at “hyper-eating” from a personal psychological and biological level to a political level. The main idea is that hyper-eating is conditioned but can be reconditioned like substance abuse and other types of addiction not by stopping eating all together but by finding the triggers, establishing routine, limiting exposures for temptation, and sticking to changing how you think about food.
Right now I would like to try Nutrisystem. The food choices and high fiber seem like a good way to try to retrain my brain!

Less a “how-to” and more a “how-I-did-it”
Good read and already passed to my sis!

How to Practice: The Way to a Meaningful Life
I am going to summarize the daily routine in my daily routine to try to incorporate this book in my life. It is very good and although I look forward to completing it I think it needs to be something I reflect on regularly.

“We Got Hired and You Can Too!”
“Every one of Mackay’s interviews with the now famously successful (Michael Bloomberg, Muhammad Ali, Billie Jean King, Jessie Ventura, Bernie Marcus, etc.) ends with the subject richer for the experience of having been fired—both literally and figuratively.”
This review by a 43T person really touches me because it also says that even those with jobs that feel afraid they will lose their job need to realize that it you can embrace such an occasion and make it a stepping stone into a beautiful and happy life

1. The Secret (on tape)
2. Complaint Free World
Have you ever wondered why you just don’t seem to be able to work with ‘so in so’ in accounting, or marketing, or your boss? Are you a teacher, and seem to be having a real problem getting through to Johnny or Sue? Do you hope to teach, or influence, or work with, or just get along with someone who seems, well, to just not get it?
Well written, easily grasped, and very applicable, this book unravels a whole plethora of tricky communication issues.
The core of the book? Two questions;
1) In general, do you consider yourself a more outgoing person, or are you a more reserved person?
2) Do you consider yourself more a people person, or are you more interested in doing things, or getting things done?
Recognizing that no one is completely one or the other in either case, you will find that people will gladly answer those two simple questions.
Who would have thought there would be so many insights, and revelations from those two simple questions?
I’m going to cheat a little on this entry. “Challenge to Succeed” is a CD. In it we hear Jim Rohn give a seminar. It may be a book as well, but I haven’t read it, neither have I come across it as a book.
Jim Rohn is a character. Fun to listen to, and funny, with interesting stories, Jim gives great insight to what it takes to create success in your life. His very engaging style, and sincere advice is a true listening pleasure.
