So easy... 20 months ago

It didn’t take me long and it was so easy to do. Now I just have to wait to see how much money I’ll get. I filled it out early so I can get more money.

Done. Hopefully by filing MUCH earlier than I did last year I’ll qualify for more aid this time. Like, maybe enough to actually cover the cost of my books as well tuition. Heh.

Easy, and it's the first step to getting student loans. 2 years ago

Some tips:
If you e-file your taxis, choose a company that offers FAFSA assistance and filing. All of the information from your taxis can be used to fill out a FAFSA. Some companies provide a simple worksheet and I have heard others actually will submit your FAFSA for you. I benefitted from this.
TaxAct Online
offers FAFSA assistance when you file your taxis through them. There are others.
FAFSA’s Official Site can get you started in either way. If you don’t wait too long you can get a PIN (personal identification number) through the mail. You will have to use the “mail me my pin” option if you loose your PIN repeatedly, or your pin is being sent to an inactive or incorrect e-mail address.
At the very least, walk into your university’s finical aid office with your PIN. If they are not busy, if you have a sight impairment or print disability, or are confused they will likely help you fill out your FAFSA in their office.

I now know that filling out and filing a FAFSA doesn’t affect your credit negatively.

It isn’t hard.

Just do it, it can’t hurt.

I am removing this goal because it is done. Now I need to get the loans. I look forward to doing this again next year!

Scary! Lots of papers, and a huge commitment. 2 years ago

I only qualify for around 10k of help a year. That means that I have to get another unsecured loan for the other half. I don’t like being in debit. If I plow through the whole process I will be between 40k and 80k dollars in debit.

I have a meeting this coming Thursday with the Financial Aid office. I have lots of forms to fill out until then. Oddly, because I filled out my FASFA so early, the Financial Aid office has done a lot of the work that they need to do already.

what a pain in the ass 2 years ago

it’s done now. I might have lied (without trying). I listed that “the student” was going back less than half time. then later, it asked how many students in the household were going at least half time. The answer: zero, I’m going less than half time. Their response: “This is not a valid answer.” Okay, I guess I’ll tell them that I’m going half time. At least it’s done, I doubt I’ll get anything, but even one loan would help a little. I can afford it without, but would like to not totally drain my savings if possible. So far, the absolute worst part of going back to school, that’s for sure. I’m listing this as not worth it, until I know if I actually got any money back.

I filled out the whole thing 2 years ago

and my computer said it lost some information and took me back to the front. I was SO MAD. I’m going to finish it up this weekend, though…I have to if I’m going to start up this summer.

Need to get back to this goal. 2 years ago

The only thing doing this is last years tax forms. I filled out my FAFSA for next year, right after I finished my taxes for this year.
