razz51And it ends as it began

In a disorganized, crazy manner! Just got a call, 9:15 at night. Must return computer thingy at 9 in the morning. Easy-peazy, but I might have been busy, committed elsewhere. Just so happens I’m not. What an outfit! 4 years ago

razz51This has just made me laugh!

So I get the message to call the main office if I want to work today. The message said “before 9” So I called about half an hour ago. I was told to call back in 5 minutes. I figured I better give them a little more time. So I just called again. Told them I got the message and needed an assignment. Their response? “If you haven’t gotten an assignment (on the gov’ment computer thingy) call your crew leader after 9.

Yeah, right. I can just hear him, “Where are you?” 4 years ago

razz51To accomplish this goal

I need another job! The training I signed up for today? Not only did I never receive the location, I find out this morning that it’s been canceled. 4 years ago

razz51And it just keeps getting dumb and dumber

Yesterday I finished my last assignment, sent it in and awaited instructions. This morning I had received no messages – no emails, no phone calls or text messages. So I go about my day. At 11 the dolt … er my crew leader calls. “Where are you?” is his standard greeting. Where did he think I was – at home without an assignment! So he asks “You wanna work?” I said “Now? and drive 2 hours before I even start? Don’t you think it’s a little late in the day for that?” He admits the work is about done.

So, he suggests I sign up for the next stage of work and tells me who to call. So I call and sign up. I’m told the training is tomorrow, at 8:30 but I am not told where it is being held. I am told someone will call me with that information. I call again at 3 and am told again someone will call. I call again at 5:45 and leave a message.

This is nuts. Just nuts. 4 years ago

razz51This has gotten downright silly

Around 12:30 today I get a text message on my phone, not my gov’ment computer, from my crew leader saying to please call him in 20 minutes in order to get my assignment. So I called him 20 minutes later. What does he say? Nothing. Silence. I say, “K, are your there?” He says, “I got it, I just gotta look.” I say, “Why don’t you call me back when you’ve got it?” That was more than 6 hours ago. Sill no word.

Does this strike anyone else as silly? 4 years ago

razz51Someone just shoot me now

My incompetent boss calls me today, Saturday, at lunchtime. I say, Hey, K, what can I do for you? He is silent (he called me, remember?) Then he asks, Are you in Screven County? This is about 2-2 1/2 hours from my home. I say, no, I’m at home, why? His response is to ask if I can go now. It’s already past noon and he wants me to drive almost 3 hours to just begin my day??!! I decline. He says, But you can work tomorrow? I point out that it’s Mother’s Day and I have plans. I also point out that according to an email that went out to all of us, we were asked to volunteer to work this weekend as overnighters in the distant counties. I did not volunteer. Also according to the email, this weekend was the last of the work for us. So I asked if I would have an assignment on Monday. He said he sent me an assignment for today. I told him that as of 10 a.m. I had no new assignments. He sputtered and said, But I know I sent you one. I said Sorry, it’s not there. See you Monday.

razz51This would be funny if it wasn't so sad

After busting my butt yesterday I check my little government computer for an assignment this morning. Lo and behold: nada! (But they’re putting pressure on us to produce. Hard to do without an assignment.)

So I went ahead and accepted a substitute teaching position. Sure ‘nuff, come 1:30 pm my crew leader calls saying he just realized I didn’t have any assignments! (duh, he’s the one who makes them!) That call went to voice mail, of course, so I returned it when school let out.

I told him I wasn’t just waiting around my house for assignments, that I can work every day in the schools. I said I had to have my assignments early in the day. He asked me why I hadn’t called him. I told him when I left him messages he was unresponsive. So what did this brilliant man say? “I got a lot on my plate!”

So, we’ll see who I’m working for tomorrow.

I like the actual teaching; it is all the discipline that is bothersome. And the low pay. 4 years ago

razz51I put in

Ten and a half hours today. I’m bushed. And amazed. Somehow my crew leader couldn’t come up with any work for me yesterday but sent me scrambling today. I drove nearly 100 miles and worked more than 10 hours. 4 years ago

razz51Well,

I’m working today. I could have worked yesterday but somehow my brilliant crew leader missed both my email and phone messages. He called me in the middle of the afternoon and asked, “So can you work?” When I pointed out I had called and left phone messages for the last two days, he said, “Well, my fault, then.” Yeah, his fault, now I’m expected to work a 10-hour day today and tomorrow to make up for it! And the weather here is expected to be severe. And I’ll be working out in the country so that means lots of driving on dirt.

Still, I’ll do it and try to do it well. But I gotta find saner work. 4 years ago

razz51I couldn't work Friday or today

Because my SO nearly died. No matter, I’m being passive-aggressively punished by having no assignments this week. My idiot supervisor hasn’t even returned my messages. This job is so maddening! 4 years ago
