What the… ?

You know, Unc may be the sort of guy who rubs some people the wrong way, but he’s honest and even from my brief interactions with him, I know he’s good people. However, I could easily see how he’d get booted and it kinda hurts. I am one of those brownshirts you’re all worried about. I go to the Neighborhood Watch at least once a day ‘cause I’m addicted to the extra cheers and I like looking after our community. Every so often there’s someone who comes across the Neighborhood Watch who has “self harm goals!!!!111” but who really is just someone with a darker sense of humor than most of us. Everyone who writes a post with an image or a link comes across the Neighborhood Watch at some point. I love kicking out spammers and scammers, but I do get worried about the cases where three people have marked some poor guy as “SPAM!” while I think it’s legitimate to give someone a link to your alma matter when you’re posting about finishing college, not to mention the people whose fates are decided before I even get a chance to vote on them.

I like being able to look after our own community. The Robots clearly don’t have time and I’d rather see the Neighborhood Watch than 80,000 people who are only here looking for a free copy of The Sims 2 online or a chance to advertise their dental practice in Dallas [true story]. That said, it doesn’t do a very good job. In addition to the people looking for The Sims 2 online [and there are so many of them that they’d be goal #3 or 4 were that goal included on the main list], there are also a lot of self-harm goals that haven’t quite been squashed. The pro-ana people are still looking to put their community back together. I actually wrote The Robots a real, live actual letter a few weeks ago because I was really annoyed and concerned about the runaway goals. Teenagers were posting their emails, phone numbers and zipcodes and it was just not cool. I decided that the whole thing was beyond my abilities, wrote them a letter and backed off.

Ugh.

Anyway, that’s my Neighborhood Watch rant. Bring back Unc!

Hooray for the continued 43thinging of Uncle Enore, long may he continue to be a smartass to us all. :-)

Unc… I don’t comment or cheer on your goals/comments as much I should, but you’ve been a very interesting person to follow… and from the way everyone else has talked on here, you’re a good guy to have in your corner… and you seem to be in a lot of people’s corners from time to time. Surely this can be settled somehow… don’t go, man.
