I grew up looking at the stars with my folks and my dad pointing out the constellations. It seems in todays world it is harder to find the time to do this. We now make a tradition of devoting at least a couple summer nights to laying in the grass as a family watching the stars come out and looking at the constellations. There are some great kids constellation books (and we have several) and adult gadgets to help you out.

I’m so glad the the somewhat cloudiness last night did not prevent me from watching the eclipse, or from checking out saturn’s rings, right next door.

hippie1427 Is going to be uber productive this year
spent about an hour around 3am sunday morning watching meteors streak through the sky.
I think I was about eleven-years-old and I was living in Saskatchewan. My grandparents came down and one night my grandpa, brother, and I laid a blanket down on the golf course across the road and watched the stars. Since it was a rural area and a clear night there was no cloud or smog to block our view and it was a beautiful sight. My grandpa pointed out the big and little dipper, North Star, and many other constellations to us.
A few years after this my family was on vacation in Nova Scotia and once again it was a rural area and a cloudless night. The only thing hindering my view were trees. I had brought along a star map so I found lots of constellations. It is truly an awesome sight and something you MUST do when out of the city!
