When I was a child I saw the ocean and stood on little patch of beach next to the boardwalk in Atlantic City…in the rain. When I was a teenager I went to the outerbanks with my family during a time when I had absolutely no interest in being outdoors anywhere, much less at the beach. When I was a young adult I went to the beach for a few hours during a trip to Los Angeles…once at night and once in the rain.

I went to Isle of Palms with the mister and his family recently and though it was just for a couple of days I finally feel like I have really been to the beach. I saved a beached starfish, went to the aquarium, dug holes in the sand, caught little baby clam thingies, and all kinds of fun stuff. I can’t wait to go again…and hopefully for a longer trip next time! 20 months ago

In about a week me and my best friend Val are going on a road trip to San diago for about a week :D So excited! We both need the break from work and all the drama from work. 23 months ago

tamaribuWell I really am

going to the beach weekly. The air and light and vistas and actually, where we’re at—the humanity are all to be savored. Next beach-related goal is going to have to specify activity (including possibly, lolling about, picnicking, or surfing, or maybe even good grief triathlon training. But for now the going is accomplished. 2 years ago

tamaributhe running group

meets at the beach every Saturday. so it looks like I’ll be spending a fair amount of time at there for the next 8 months or so. meet-up time varies from 6 to 8 am so it’ll generally be so foggy, that my experience of the shore will be less visual, than… otherwise. 2 years ago

tamaributoday we walked

over 14 miles in urban exploration down Pico Blvd., destination: the beach.

Toes have never felt happier than when, after being battered and squished into shoes for all this distance, were finally released onto the sand and then into the cool cool ocean. 2 years ago

tamaribuMom's childhood beach

is where we went this morning, early, before it got windy.

This beach has for as long as Mom can remember had a long shallow area protected by a reef that is an calm, warm wading pool. tiny fish and children and – in the early morning – a few neighbor adults float and play and relax in the pool.

Mom’s not into swimming but she loves looking at fish. As it was when she was little, it’s as of this morning a great place to be together at the beach. Many shell and coral fragments at low tide for beachcombing. And at the mouth of the inlet someone was picking great bags of seaweed to sell or cook with? We grabbed a handful and nibbled – delicious!

A misty shower blew through briefly but we stayed on and were rewarded with a wide pale rainbow leg. 2 years ago

tamaribuby saying "Mom,

let’s go to the beach.” A couple of visits ago, I established that going to the beach together is a high priority for family vacation. And today we went.

It got a little windy. And I was the only one in our party swimming. But there’s nothing like napping on a mat in the sun, or snacking and not minding the grains of sand sprinkled in.

The water was perfect. And I love watching happy families. 2 years ago

Two more weeks, and I’m there! 2 years ago

tamaribufor summertime anyway

I like keeping this entry here, it reminds that the beach is nearby.

Q hosted her niece from No. Carolina recently (she’d come all this way to see her aunty graduate). She took her on her very first trip to the beach. A revelation.

I’m lucky to live here. 2 years ago
