It's bigger!
The new a/c unit is bigger than the old one. And quieter.
Being without air conditioning for a week taught me that sometimes when I run it, I don’t really need it. I’m going to try opening windows on cool nights.
After the unit was installed, the a/c guy noticed a fan was running even when everything should have been off. I showed him where the ac/furnace closet is. He looked inside and exclaimed “Holy Frijole! That’s an old one.” He gave it a whack with his hand, and the fan went off. It’s working fine now.

If all goes well, I’ll have a new air conditioner tomorrow morning. Pictured is the old, dead one. It’s 26 years old. Someone at work said that even if they don’t replace it with a high energy-efficient unit, a new one should be more efficient than a 26 year old one anyway. I’ll be paying $300 for some costs that weren’t covered by the warranty including a pad for it to sit on.
I left Lily at daycare for a sleepover. She’s had a hard time with the heat. The cats don’t have as much energy, but they like that I’ve been opening the windows. I should do that more often, I guess.

I asked how long it will take, but they couldn’t say. Poo. It’s only 82 in the house right now, though. Not bad at all with a fan blowing on me.

I called the warranty company today, and the lady said the contractor who came out on Friday had not submitted his report. She tried to call the contractor, but the contractor’s business was closed for the weekend. The lady said she would follow up on Monday and make sure someone calls me to tell me what’s up.
Waiting in the heat is the painful thing about it being under the home warranty. I’m at their mercy. But if they pay for a replacement, it’ll be worth waiting through this 90 degree heat at midnight on a Saturday night.
It’s not too bad with the fan blowing on me. Poor Lily is still panting, though.

The repairman said it’s dead. It’s dead!! Now I wait for them to call the warranty company and hope the warranty company comes through with their promises to replace dead air conditioners.
The bad news is that I probably won’t hear anything until tomorrow, and I don’t know what that means as far as getting a new one installed. It’s going to be a hot weekend.

She said the technician has been trying to call me, and she wanted to know if she should tell him to come to the house. I told her yes (duh). Then she gave me a lecture about how important it is that I answer the phone because if I don’t answer, he won’t come to the house. As if I’ve been sitting here in the sweltering heat ignoring phone calls. The phone never rang!! Sheesh.

and my a/c is out. It went out yesterday. When I got home from work, it was 89 inside the house, and never got below 80 during the night. I slept okay (except for this crick in my neck which can’t have anything to do with the a/c, right?).
I’m home this afternoon waiting for the a/c guy to come by. I’m actually hoping my a/c is dead because my home warranty will supposedly pay to replace it. It’s 25 years old. That would be sweet.

which costs $40 and might take 2 weeks to get here. Meanwhile, the repair guy and my neighbor are going to see if one of my neighbor’s old ACs will work temporarily. Of course, it’s supposed to cool down to 96 on Thursday.
Hee, hee! “people doing this are also doing these things: “get used to spicy food”!
