SECOND_TIME_AROUNDSunday Afternoon - at the Museum saw a China Circus

I don’t know the correct name, but I sure was amazed at what all those young people could do. Who, could ever bend that way! Very talented, great to see another cultures stage art. What is next? 4 years ago

SECOND_TIME_AROUNDOne More Down!

I decided, it is Saturday, and time to do something great for me! So no more cleaning, but stopped to look throught he paper and found something to see, and immediately picked up the phone and made the reservation! 1 1/2 hr later I was in the theatre..and then watched Menopause. Funny, and I’m in the right age bracket..was a great day! Tomorrow I have a ticket for something else! Just do it! 4 years ago

SECOND_TIME_AROUNDTake the time to find and go...

I used to go to NY City twice a year to see plays. Those were the days. Now I don’t even look to see what is playing in town 5 miles away. Theatre is everywhere, I want to get back to going, and see those slices of life under the lights and hear the big sounds of the live music! Experienced RENT a few weeks ago…

I’m so glad I did this, finally (my idea of success was always getting to the point of going to more plays than movies). Having a compatible theater-loving partner was essential (and amazingly hard to find)! 5 years ago

just meDoes ballet count as theater?

We saw the Nutcracker Suite performed by a local ballet school. I really enjoyed it. I had never seen a ballet before and had only seen pieces of the nutcracker on tv. The dancers were beautiful. There were a few professionals doing some of the harder parts, but the majority of the cast were children, some younger than Rachel. I wish I had continued with dance when I was younger. Of course, everytime I see a show, I get all wistful and think, “I could be doing that.” 5 years ago

munchkin181Off Broadway

I saw my first Off Broadway show a couple of weeks ago. Things I Want. Loved it. I have a long list of shows I still want to see. 5 years ago

AnomanderThe play's the thing, is it?

OK, so i’m constantly annoyed at the results of a commercially driven film market, and pine for something interesting and with something to say. I love a well made film. I love a good film. But these are few and far between in any given year and so it has seemed for a long time i should surely get a lot of satisfaction from theatre. Thus, tonight i saw my first play as an adult. Admittedly, it took an appearance by the delectable Billie Piper to force my hand, but um.. there we are :) Anyway.. i came away with some surprising impressions. Largely, a new appreciation for the medium of film; the specificity of its viewpoint, and the tight control of its authorship.. focus, effects both visual and aural.. etc. Maybe the material wasn’t great, or interesting enough to me. Or perhaps the acting wasn’t up to scratch. Maybe it’s just my naivete. Either way the performance didn’t make a great impression on me. I know there’s more, and look forward to magnetic performances and engaging stories to come. And some good musicals! 6 years ago

byrdwomanGreat Play!

Right off the bat I got started on this one. Went to see “Escape from Happiness” by Theatre Vertigo in Portland. Highly recommended – funny, dark comedy, and just a little bit too long… My friend and I had a blast. I had forgotten how fun it is to see good theatre. Onward! 6 years ago

just meMan of La Mancha

My mother took Tristan and I to see Man of La Mancha at the Orpheum for Christmas. It was really nice. The actor playing Don Quixote was very good. He really played up the difference between Don Quixote and Miguel Cervantes. The only bummer was Aldonza. She was way too gentle for the part. She had a soft soprano voice and just missed the point of Aldonza becoming Dulcinea. Tristan really loved it though. We’re hoping we can go to the little community theater production of Alice in Wonderland next month. I think the kids would love it. Who knows, maybe Rachel will take an interest in acting. 6 years ago
