I took a strip of dark purple jersey, about 22×54, and made a simple, plain ol’ ponch (sew one end to the side of the other) to wear over fancy outfits when it’s a bit chilly. It looks fantastic. I was sick and tired of my drapy shawl/pashmina/whatever dragging, falling down, and getting in my food. Very pleased. 9 months ago

I was much more careful on the second attempt at hemming, and it’s all done and ready for me to wear to work today. For sure, I need at least one more skirt, it’s super hot and also that first one is a little fancy for everyday wear, I want to keep it a little special. 10 months ago

Once upon a time I made a big long hippie patchwork skirt, which was pleated and consequently not very flattering. I took it apart at some point and had it as a piece of fabric and somehow it made it across the country with me and then sat around for another year. Then I decided to cut it into a skirt I could actually use so I cut out my usual bias-cut a-line (which I have about 4 of and happily use all). Then it sat around for a few weeks while I was busy, and today I sewed it up and made a waistband. Still needs the hem finished (it’s times like these it’s tempting to use a machine, because then I could wear it to work tomorrow).
By the way, the secret to a good drawstring is to make it out of knit fabric: has the right amount of stretch. I have several I need to replace that are currently leather strips or shoelaces or whatever I had handy. 11 months ago

Next up, perhaps a maxi dress like the one in the previous entry. 12 months ago

I have the skirt mostly done, just need to finish sewing down the delicate lace so it doesn’t tangle or rumple. 13 months ago
