Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Did an internship studying whales in False Bay, one of the greatest experiences of my life! 13 months ago

PhoenixAshesIts booked!

I’m leaving on the 13th or something of November, and coming back on the 17th of December! I’m going to visit my family there, of whom I have never met before so that will be an interesting experience, and I’m also spending a week at Kruger Naitonal Park, and another elephant park where you can actually pat the elephants! I’M SO EXCITED!!! BEST END OF HSC REWARD EVER!

My fathers frequent flier points are paying for most of the flight there and back :P 2 years ago

yousterHitch-hiked to MOROCCO!

YES! Me and my boyfriend went to Morocco in April 2011. It was incredible.

We did the ‘Hitch-Hike to Morocco’ to raise money for Link Community Development

To be honest, we hated the actual hitch-hike! It was difficult, and a lot more difficult than normal travelling. But when we arrived in Morocco it was fantastic – I just wish we could have had more time!

We went to Asilah, Fez and Cassablanca. :) 2 years ago

tanbakerspecifically these three countries

I’ve been thinking of traveling a LOT lately and I’ve taken a sabbatical from my career as a teacher in order to pursue this passion. I am excited and terrified, as well as tremendously nervous but I look forward to seeing the world!

Thinking of Africa, I want to see the pyramids in Egypt, climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, and simply walk the streets of Morocco. 3 years ago

The SongstressNigeria... Coincidence or Fate? Lol.

I’ve always wanted to travel, but haven’t had the opportunity to do much of it. I have a huge book called The Travel Book that has every country and territory in the world in it. Traveling to different countries and exploring different cultures is a big dream of mine.

I was watching the movie “Phat Girlz” with Monique and joked to my friend that Nigeria was my next vacation so I could meet my own Dr. Tunde haha.

Well, then I met this very nice guy at work who is from Nigeria. A few of us there have become friends. He told us he goes home to visit his parents every year and invited us to come with next summer. I’m so excited. What an adventure for a Georgia girl who’s never traveled out of the South before!!!

Now to save up for that $1,500 plane ticket… 3 years ago

This is one we should all want to do. Africa is rich with culture, tradition and vast wildlife. I hope to go someday. 4 years ago

alysse14I've set a date :)

I’ve decided to go in early 2012 (as I already have a holiday to Bali and Indonesia in 2011). I’m going to go to Kenya and Tanzania, I’m going to volunteer if possible, go on a wildlife trip, and… attempt the Mt. Kilimanjaro trek! I haven’t done any mountain climbing before, but I think if I start training now (18 months before I go) I can achieve the necessary fitness level and experience :). The only thing now is to start saving! I won’t know anyone else going, but I figure I’ll meet people there! :) exciting 4 years ago
