Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Amy AMovie 621-640

621. Jug Face – yes…I really watched a movie called Jug Face. It was actually better than it sounds, but not great by any standards.

622. Thor: Darkworld – I liked it…I didn’t think I would enjoy this whole grouping of superhero movies that has been coming out the last few years…but I actually have really been entertained by them.

623. Mama – one of the best horror movies I’ve seen in a while. Genuinely creepy. Description: Guillermo del Toro presents Mama, a supernatural thriller that tells the haunting tale of two little girls who disappeared into the woods the day that their mother was murdered.

624. Pitch Perfect – Cute, heartwarming, and a little bit of girl power.

625. Scooby Doo: Curse of the Lake Monster – horrible live action Scooby doo movie…worse than the one with Freedie Prinz Jr.

626. The Village Barbershop – Description: A fading smalltime barber is forced to hire the last person on earth he’d want working in his shop – a woman – slow moving and a little depressing in parts, but a really good movie.

627. My Blueberry Nights – Description – A young woman takes a soul-searching journey across America to resolve her questions about love while encountering a series of offbeat characters along the way. – hard to watch in parts, but overall a very good movie.

628. The First Time – Coming of age (loss of virginity) story. I liked it and thought it treated the subject fairly well.

629. Seven Psychopaths – just what you would expect.

630. Inside Llewellyn Davis – A week in the life of a young singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961. – I didn’t like it, but it was a good movie.

631. Devil’s Pass – I went into this thinking it was going to be another shitty found footage movie…but it turned out much better than I expected…I really enjoyed it. Description: The Dyatlov Pass follows a group of American students on a trek to investigate the true life mystery of nine Russian skiers who befell unexplained deaths while skiing in the Russian mountains in 1959. To this day, their deaths have been one of the most bizarre unsolved mysteries of the 20th century.

632. The Marked One’s – another in the Paranormal Activity vein…awful

633. Equilibrium – Description: In a Fascist future where all forms of feeling are illegal, a man in charge of enforcing the law rises to overthrow the system. —interesting idea, decent execution, but I saw the ending coming a mile away.

634. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty – enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

635. The Returned – Interesting riff on the zombie genre…the virus is kept at bay in those who are infected with daily doses of a drug…but a shortage of that drug changes everything…it’s about zombies…but mostly it’s about human nature and how far people are willing to go to protect themselves and their loved one’s. Really enjoyed this.

636. Haunter – Description: The ghost of a teenager who died years ago reaches out to the land of the living in order to save someone from suffering her same fate. – awesome idea, decent execution, I enjoyed it.

637. Haunt – Description: A family of five moves into a beautiful, sprawling dream home. One problem: it’s cursed, having caused the deaths of the previous family to occupy it, leaving only one survivor (Jacki Weaver). —some predictable things…but overall, good and I loved the way it played out.

638. An American Ghost Story – Description: When Paul, an unemployed writer, decides to rent and live in a house that’s rumored to be haunted, he puts his life and his relationships in grave danger as he obsessively attempts to get the story that will finally make his career. —had good potential…but for a guy who was hoping to get haunted…he never did any logical things…like BACKGROUND RESEARCH before he moved in. Stupid.

639. Evidence – Found footage movie. Description: A detective hunts down a killer using video footage shot by the victims of a massacre at an abandoned gas station. —good idea, decent execution , twist ending I didn’t see coming.

640. Abandoned Mine – Description: Follows five small-town friends who decided to celebrate Halloween with an overnight adventure into the legendary “haunted” Jarvis Mine. Local legend says that a family was murdered in the mine exactly 100 years prior, and that angry spirits have occupied the mine ever since. The group becomes trapped, and their cameras catch the mysterious occurrences that follow. —typical 5 months ago

601. The Philosophers – Interesting idea, ok execution, flop ending.

602. Iron Man 3 – kind of a guy action flic…I liked it, my son REALLY liked it.

603. Elysium – I’m not that big a fan of Matt Damon. This tackled some big issues…and it was fairly decent.

604. After Earth – sort of decent…but really just Will Smith and his son having a father son movie moment.

605. The Kings of Summer – A little dark, but I really enjoyed this coming of age flick.

606. The Croods – Animated, I liked it.

607. Stranded – the premise is basically the Lunar Base Ark is hit by a meteor shower and has severe damage, the ensuing paranoia and hallucinations aren’t helped by an actual dangerous spoor. Christian Slater features in this straight up weird movie that isn’t very good.

608. Bounty Killer – an ok riff on Death Race in a future where “bounty killers” kill off white collar criminals for cash and fame.

609. Black Forest – the description of this movie goes like this: A group of tourists take a ‘mid-summers eve tour’ to the Black Forest of Germany to experience the night of the year when the line between our reality and the spirit one is at it’s thinnest. Once there they are seemingly transported to a mischievous parallel fairy-tale world in this original Syfy film…it was ok-ish.

610. The Fitzgerald Family Christmas – description: The adult siblings of the Fitzgerald family prepare for their estranged father to return home for Christmas for the first time since he walked out on his family 20 years ago. I liked it…f’d up family relations at Christmas….it was good.

612. Dear Santa – Holiday movie for goal on here.

616. Europa Report – Description: An international crew of astronauts undertakes a privately funded mission to search for life on Jupiter’s fourth largest moon – totally saw the ending coming.

617. Saint Nick – Niklas, a sinister cleric, returns to avenge his death by killing innocent kids. Now a lad named Frank and a disgraced cop must stop the rampage. – creepy holiday flick.

619. Man of Steel – I liked it more than I thought I would based on reviews I hear before I saw it.

620. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 – OMG, I liked this movie WAY more thank I should have! 5 months ago

581. Henry Poole is Here – angry man discovers miracle and has faith restored. eh, ok.

582. Night of the Living Dead – I saw this when I was very young and didn’t really remember it. Classic horror, I’m counting it as “new” since it’s been more than 15 or 20 years since I’d seen it.

583. The Smurfs 2 – cute and light.

584. The Wolverine – interesting as an aside to the rest of the franchise…I like Jackman as Wolverine…good for entertainment, but not a great movie.

586. Turbo – badass snails. Fun.

587. The Purge – disturbing on many levels…also very violent. I liked it, but it leaves kind of a bad taste in terms of really thinking about what people would be willing to do if there were no consequences.

588. St. Trinian’s – Teen flick. Entertaining.

589. World War Z – not at all like the book. It was ok, but overall, meh.

600. In the Dark Half – sad and dark. 5 months ago

562. DreamWorks Spooky Stories: Volume II – cute and light.

563. Sharknado – OMG soooooooo bad, so unbelievably bad…but had a certain charm in it’s awfulness.

565. Frist Man into Space – Black and White movie.

566. The Atomic Submarine – black and white.

568. Hitchcock – Enjoyed a lot.

569. Girl in Progress – decent coming of age story with parent/child role reversal.

570. The Intouchables – Awesome movie.

571. John Carter – Disney produced fantasy based on a book I haven’t read…I liked it, but the book was probably better.

572. Beyond Sherwood Forest – weird multidimensional Robin Hood flick with dragons. Not awful, but not great either.

573. Robin Hood: Ghosts of Sherwood – zombies have come to Sherwood. Worst movie I’ve seen in quite some time.

574. The Way Back – inspired by The Long Walk…this was quite a good movie but very sad.

575. Silver Linings – I really liked this movie about getting your shit together and finding some meaning in life.

576. Butter – really good movie.

577. The Call – Good.

578. Dark City – hated it.

579. Attack the Block – Cute-ish. Enjoyable enough

Amy AMovies 541-560

541. Not of this Earth – Been meaning to watch this for a while…ya know…just ‘cause.

542. Last Kind Words – 2012 horror flick with some interesting ideas about the line between life and death. I liked it.

543. Escape from Planet Earth – Animated Kid flick. Entertaining and light.

544. 6 Souls – IMDB says: 6 SOULS has a compelling and unique storyline that nicely intermixes spiritual and psychological elements: There are some very original ideas here…which I agree with.

545. Maniac – Frodo as a serial killer with a fetish for scalps…deeply disturbing…but not the way it was meant to be. I didn’t like this at all.

546. Paranormal Asylum – As I recall, this movie actually managed to freak me out and for the “found footage” genre, not bad at all.

547. Beneath the Darkness – Dennis Quaid is super creepy in this mostly predictable teen prank gone wrong thriller wannabe.

548. Ghosts of Goldfield – awful.

549. The Wickeds – teenagers + graverobbers + zombies = HORRIBLE

550. The Amityville Haunting – found footage movie in the Amityville theme…not very good.

551. Extracted – IMDB says: scientist whose consciousness becomes trapped in the mind of a convict (Dominic Bogart) who volunteered to be a part of an experimental procedure…eh, it was okay.

552. Stoker – I really wanted to like this movie…interesting ideas on the vampire genre…but I just couldn’t get there.

553. Silent Hill Revelation – also over this series.

554. Hollow – strangely disjointed movie. I liked the idea behind the movie, but not the execution.

555. True Nature – Not awful, pretty good twist idea. Ending iffy.

556. Playback – description: When a group of high school students dig into their town’s infamous past they unwittingly unlock an Evil that corrupts and destroys them. Possessing its victims through video playback and using them for malevolent purposes, it closes in on one specific soul, threatening to expose the town’s deepest, darkest secret…it was ok.

557. Paranormal Incident – found footage movie (my daughter picked this one)...nothing new and typical of the genre.

558. The Awakening – typical, somewhat understated British movie where haunting skeptic who disproves hauntings gets drawn in to the real deal. Some interesting plot twists…but overall just ok.

559. My Step-Dad’s a Freakin’ Vampire – cute, light and easy.

560. The Feeding – werewolf movie…started out ok…but was disappointing in the end. 5 months ago

Amy AMovies 521-540

521. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters – Holy shitballs…what an awful movie!

522. A Haunting at Silver Falls – girl finds ring randomly in wood, mayhem ensues.

523. The Collection – wow…the original had a pretty f’d up premise…carried out to it’s most brutal conclusion. I liked it, this sequel carries that forward, but for me just doesn’t make it as a decent flick. I couldn’t suspend my disbelief quite that far.

524. Friends with Kids – eh…typical.

525. Mortal Instruments: City of Bones – ok, but I didn’t really “see” the main male character as casted. Mostly watched because my daughter really liked this books.

526. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters – watched last year because my son really wanted to see it, he really liked the books. I enjoyed it.

527. The Demented – some interesting ideas about zombies that I haven’t seen before. It’s low budget and I think they did a fairly decent job.

528. The Sessions – Amazing…but also sad in a lot of ways. One of the best movies I’ve seen.

529. Die Hard with a Vengeance – meh…I’m kind of over this series, but feel compelled to watch them all.

534. John Dies at the End – meh

I’ve been wanting to watch 331 for awhile—finally caught it on tv the other day. :) It was a very sweet movie.

The last two came on this morning as I sat bored at home (no school is good and bad at the same time!). Cloud Atlas was actually pretty great… There were a lot of memorable moments. I cried a little. I remember I saw the preview awhile ago and thought it looked weird, but no. It was great.

Ruby Sparks I wasn’t sure about either. It sounded similar to Stranger Than Fiction, I think it was called. The one with Will Ferrell in it. It wasn’t bad, though. Calvin was a fool for ruining what he had, but… Hm. It was interesting to see how their relationship evolved through the movie. 7 months ago
