Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Suzi SI have done this before, and i'm doing it again!

A few years ago, I took a road trip from MD to Savannah, GA. I knew when i left that my destination was going to be Savannah, – but I decided i wanted to explore all of the coastal islands in between (there are many) I left with no reservations, took my tent, camera, notepad, a BIG cooler, and set off – It was the best vacation i’ve ever taken. I’m getting ready to do another one – and hopefully longer. I want to continue to explore coastal Islands – this time either the golden isles of the Georgia Coast, OR fly into Miami, rent a car and explore the Florida keys, ending up in Key West and grabbing a flight home from there. I can’t decide! I so want to do BOTH! 3 years ago

FascinaUntitled

I’ve wanted to do this ever since junior high. Taking trips to the campground or an amusement park by means of a large van packed with kids was great adventure for me. I looked forward to the grown-up version, which I imagined being like the psychadelic love child of Road Trip and a Britney Spears movie. I love driving, blasting down roads that roll and curve dangerously, and wandering freely, discovering things you don’t see on the interstate. 5 years ago

daystarsOh fun!

I think a friend of mine and I are going to do this over the holiday break. We are making plans… sounds like we’re going to head over to the Olympic Peninsula somewhere or maybe the ocean. We’ll find out where we are going when we get there :) 5 years ago

MiclolJust Before the New (and Last) School Year

My cousin got his driver’s license so we decided to just take his car and hit the road… it was pretty great even though we hadn’t gotten that far away (we did manage to get lost though :). There was some great music and conversation and that unique feeling of carelessness and freedom. Lots of smiles, and we’ve decided to do it again every once in a while… :) 8 years ago
