I live in the suburbs of a major city, and it can be challenging to get outside. I grew up in the country and miss being outside in nature so much! Since there is a small lake with path around it just a few hundred feet from my house, I resolve to go on more walks there. 17 months ago
I bought a pedometer to help motivate me to hit some goals in total steps for the day. I’m starting out with 10,000 steps a day with about 4,000 of them being aerobic steps to get my heart rate up and give me at least 30m of exercise a day. When I actually remember to bring it, I hit my goal everytime! 3 years ago
I got a nifty BOB stroller to push the girls around in while I walk. This thing is great! It’s like a SUV in a stroller! This has helped me a ton with getting out and walking a whole lot more. Getting babies to nap is a great motivator to get out and walk. 3 years ago
Because it clears your mind and it’s nice to get out and it’s a healthy way to do it. 5 years ago
today i went on a walk, and it made me realize that while doing so, i really get to think. it’s really amazing, i leave, and i come back home with all sorts of new thoughts in my head. i really get a chance to think about who i am, how i feel, how i’m going to accomplish my goals, create new goals, and have a good time admiring my surroundings. walking is the bees-knees 5 years ago
I’m retiring this goal. I have been walking more often, and I’m even hoping to get back to doing a little running. 6 years ago
lol
lord only knows when the last time i actually got out the door for a decent walk,,,,but saturday evening, with a perfectly warm breezy twilight outside, I pried myself away from the std time-sinks (Computer, Organizing, TV, Reading), and went for a 20 mins walk around the neighborhood.
It truly was a perfect night for strolling: the sky was clear, & tinted beautful shades of violet and orange. The moon was a perfect cresent high in the sky, with the evening star (i presume venus) exactly beside it (bummed i didnt get a photo) But as usual, when i do finally get myself off for a walk, i enjoyed it immensely, and berate myself for not getting around to doing so more often.
The only drawback, is when i reach about the 15-20 min mark, my legs start itching incredibly. (i know its just indicative of poor circulation of oxygen from my having a heart murmur and anemia). But i know that you dont really raise your metabolism until you hit the 20 min mark.
arrgh…what is it, as i said to Des, about doing things that are Good for you that is so difficult ? I’m forever planning in my head about walking daily, or at least 3-4 times a week, or commiting to a walk every _ _ _ _Night, etc etc. Yet it generally winds up being 6 weeks between actual walks taken. yeesh.
oh well, as my fav Teddy Roosevelt quote goes:“Do what you can, where you are, with what you have”
A walk every 6 weeks is better than none, i guess…6 years ago
...so I’m going for a walk. I haven’t eaten breakfast yet, though, so I think I should take a Krispy Kreme with me. 6 years ago
We have just a few weeks left of good weather, and I’d like to get some walking in. It will help me with this too!
I have a friend who has offered to go walking with me once in a while. It might help motivate me. She’s a little more of a nature person than I. She says, Bring your rain gear! Ugh! 6 years ago
