Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

hecate_dracul6 days, 5000 miles

I’ve wanted to do this forever and just got home from my trip. Coast to coast and back in 6 days. It was incredibly therapeutic for me. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything. 9 months ago

seanvd12345CT to Seattle via the Texas panhandle

I can’t believe it was ten years ago when I did this on my own! I was lucky that the old Dodge pickup I just bought got me there in one piece and the weather was wonderful at that time of year, perhaps a little too hot in the desert. To my surprise I found that people are very friendly and helpful towards someone who is just passing through. My next big road trip for the very near future (Spring ‘14?) is to couchsurf from England to my brother’s place in Turkey. Happy trails one and all! 13 months ago

superstrkd121684Completely amazing life experience!

If you have any questions, I would be glad to answer them! A girlfriend and I traveled cross country for 3 weeks in August 2011 and it was amazing!! We starting in NJ and hit the following points/cities: Chicago, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, Seattle, WA, the Redwoods, San Francisco, LA, Grand Canyon National Park, Route 66, and Dallas. We would have hit New Orleans, Nashville, Charleston, SC, and Virginia, but my road trip partner’s Dad passed away. We jetted home straight from Dallas to NJ with a hotel stop in Memphis. I can give all sorts of points on various campgrounds, bars, dinner spots, music spots, transportation around various cities, cheap hotel choices, budgeting you’ll need to do, food to bring with, and sites to see. Do this when and while you can!! 23 months ago

brianmcn44Brother and his friends cross country

In June 2008, my brother and his friends who just graduated HS set out to cross the country. We bought a minivan because if we rented a minivan they would nomt have been allowed to drive.

We left from newtown PA and headed south. Through Virginia into Tennessee and then to new Orleans, Galveston, San Antonio, new Mexico, Vegas and then San Diego.

We made t-shirts called the Keys to Life Tour. It was great time and we eventually sold the minivan for $2000 loss right as the e anomy tanked. 3 years ago

Allison ZervopoulosAmazing!

Drove from NJ to CA in January 2010 all along the southern states. Now I’ll be driving back doing all the middle states, then hopefully all the Northern states in August! 3 years ago

I actually only went as far as Nevada. Didn’t cross into California, but pretty close. Did it in 2003 and 2004. 3 years ago
