How I did it: I followed these steps to increase my sailing network, my skills, and find opportunities to join crews. Find a group of sailors (probably near some water :P). Hang out with them and find particularly helpful and willing instructors/friends. Go sailing regularly (I participated in the weekly lessons offered at Cal-Sailing Club).
