How I did it: I hooked up with a volunteer-run organization called The New York Downtown Boathouse, which provides free kayaking lessons and guided trips in NYC. NYDBH provided all the equipment--the kayak itself, oar, the life jacket, even a locker to store my stuff in. Best of all, everything was free. All they ask for is a donation (and I was more than happy to oblige them). The volunteers are really great. Read how I did it…
How I did it: When first arriving to D.C., a woman was telling me that one of the things she was looking forward to doing was kayaking on the Potomac River, the same river that 1st U.S. President George Washington relied on for his livelihood and transportation. How I did it: Find a class or a group to go with. If you've never gone before you'll want to get some instruction with other beginners. I heard about a canoe club here in Philadelphia. How I did it: I'm afraid of the open ocean water. To try to face this fear, my boyfriend and I went sea kayaking. The first time we did this was in Cabo San Lucas. We kayaked in the Sea of Cortez. The views were amazing. We took our time just paddling and enjoying the beautiful views. All in all I've gone kayaking 3 times. 2 times in the Sea of Cortez and once around the Marrietas Island in Puerto Vallarta. I do it as a relaxation excursion. Read how I did it…
