The organic in this ecuation is making me uneasy. I will settle for produce from the market, fresh and hygenic.

How I did it: When confronted with choices between, let´s say, organic (from another state) and locally grown I have come to choose the locals. The energy saved by less milage on the produce makes me feel ingrained into the community and more carbon emission responsible Read how I did it…

muffcity can't keep up with all i've really done so far...
Shopping local, going to weekly farmer’s market, choosing organic when it’s not terribly expensive. Which it usually is…!

I joined an organic co-op. Http://moorefarmsandfriends.com
Totally awesome and it keeps me from having to go to the grocery store too :P

And sunday prep really has my hopes up as I prepare at least five delicious meals for my family this week, and no science projects in the fridge…GO ME!!

Today I am having a very ligth meal, filling and delicious and all with new vegetables, that I had already bought in the market.
May everyone have a very healthy, rich and bargain happy 2009!!!
This is a huge goal of mine. This is huge. My struggles right now are finding the money, which, of course if I budgeted better I could find! Also, I live down the street from a QFC and several blocks away from my local co-op… it feels more convenient to go to QFC because I am a last minute shopper. I need to schedule my time better.

Tomorrow is market day, so I should look into the recipies that have squash in them….
Last night we had spinach pasta from the food co-op, topped with squash (some from our garden, one locally grown from the food co-op). I added a little Wisconsin parmesan. There were also cherry tomatoes which in this case were from California (I bought Wisconsin ones yesterday but had some left from last week that I used in this dish). We ate homemade bread with the meal. The olive oil wasn’t local, and the bread ingredients, but ti was a fairly local meal.
Oh, and it was very yummy too!
I made a pizza. Homemade crust, topped with garden squash and Wisconsin cheeses (mozzarella, parmesan, feta). The onion and tomato sauce weren’t local, and neither was the olive oil or the truffle oil. But OMG, was it ever good. G.O.O.D.
1. Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver has some good ideas for seasonal meal plans. I’ll have to vegetarianize them.
2. I ordered a book referenced in A, V, M called Local Flavors. Hopefully it’ll have some more good ideas when it arrives.
3. I’d like to clean out my freezer a bit and freeze leftovers when I cook so that we can extend our local food season. I don’t have any illusions about being able to do what Barbara Kingsolver did, but we can make some small steps.
4. I want to get back to shopping some at farmers’ markets.
