How I did it: My mother gave me a sewing machine for my fortieth birthday, and i've found a couple of simple patterns to get back in the swing of things. I first made a pair of trousers that look and feel great... Also made a stuffed cat-toy for my niece and a few other assorted things... Read how I did it…

How I did it: I was given a sewing machine as an early birthday present, so I went to spotlight and gathered some supplies. I have made pajama pants, customised my jeans, taken up lots of pants (i'm small lol) and made a mario power up toy for a friend Read how I did it…

How I did it: I have been sewing for years. I got into it probably when I was about 12. I am all self taught and trust me it shows. lol. My clothing comes out fantastic sometimes and sometimes it goes straight to goodwill. I am still struggling with making my personal clothing designs into actual clothing but i am really good at restructuring old clothing. I make any old shirt into a skirt, halter, dress or purse. I actually just finished a recons… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I now have a whole new wardrobe consructed from things I didnt want or wear anymore. I started small and made a simple dress from an old shirt and some spare material which turned out really well... Then I made a denim skirt out of some old jeans. After that I felt really inspired to renovate everything I dont use to something I do Read how I did it…

OK so once in a while I think about how nice it would be to make my own clothes… But I never actually do it! And I never take a course to learn how to… So how will I ever be able to make my own clothes? I think I should remove this goal and replace it with something to do with styling. Let other people make beautiful clothes, let me do something with the styling.

I’m really big into the Steampunk thing, but I wanted to find ways to incorporate it into my everyday wardrobe, with out being all weird…k, it can happen back off!
Anyway, I found this really cool site where people have put to together collections of current fashion items to make, well all kinds of theme, but there is a lot of Steampunk themed things.
So, since everything requires a bit of modification anyway, I decided to break things down and work it into my ten item challenge I stole from CharityAK.
Basically, you need Boots, Bodices/Corset, Ruffles, and cool accessories like Hats, Spectacles, Gloves, and anything brass.
armed with that and a color pallet of mute, earthy colors and bold jewel colors, I am ready to embark on remaking my wardrobe to be…Everyday Steampunk!
I’ve borrowed my grandma’s sewing machine and she teached me how to do the basic stuff. Now I have some ideas in my head, and I have to draw them and make a pattern. Then I’ll shop for materials and start sewing. :)

CharityAK is in some kind of fashion contest where she needs to make ten mix and match items for her fall wardrobe. I’m completely stealing this, but with a twist, I have to use whats on hand, no new nothing. So, old sheets, curtains, tablecloths, and old clothing will get re-purposed and turned into a fabulous wardrobe for the fall…now the problem is if the fall is going to be warm or cold.

just finished a nice dress…yes my room is a mess, but I considering it the only room I have, its pretty clean…

With all my stiff in one place, in easy reach! SOOOOOO excited!!!!
I want to do this because I want to express myself and encourage my creativity more. I want to be able to wear clothes not made off the backs of little kids and single mothers making 10 cents an hour.
I’ve purchased a pattern fabric and all necessary materials.
Now I just need to get down to doing it :)

killerpixie asks,
“Does anyone know how to make t-shirt transfers (eg a picture) onto darkly coloured t-shirts? Transfer paper works well with light / pastel colours but I can't seem to get anything onto black t-shirts... I know it can be done!!”
