I would like to completely remodel every room in my house and buy new furniture.

Remodeling 2 years ago

Since I am moving to Florida in October, my townhouse in Colorado we be a rental unit for a long time. I have been working on fixing it up a bit already. I replaced the appliances and I plan on having my dad paint the entire thing this year. A better place allows for better rent rates for me :)

Slow going 2 years ago

Things keep getting bogged down, we get sidetracked, the weather doesn’t cooperate, etc. We’re doing the remodeling ourselves as time and money allows. My goal is to have the master bedroom completed by mid-May. Just finished the electrical work, added a new exterior door (to go to a deck which is another phase of the remodel) and the patching of holes and such is 95% complete. I need to start the texturing before the end of next week… But first there’s this gaping hole in the hall ceiling that is calling my name (hubby “slipped” while in the attic running some wire)... another one of those things that keep getting in the way.

Some builders should be shot...... 2 years ago

We started to remodel the bathroom last weekend. Can we say “yuck”, boys and girls? I knew you could. We bought our home in 2000 from it’s previous owners who did several “Oh no, you really shouldn’t have..” home improvements. Between crappy building work and crappy home improvements, let’s just say that what started out as a 1,000 dollar job will now be triple that.

Here’s what we found:
1) The floor under the poorly laid vinyl was covered with black slime.
2) The floor was sloping to one side. We found out why. When the plumbing was installed for the tub, a support beam was cut (two foot section missing)to make room for the plumbing.
3)We had to remove insulation due to mold on the fireboard behind the insulation and a TON of mouse scat.
4)There was no greenboard or concrete board used behind or around the tub/shower-just drywall.
5)There was no insulation on the interior walls-just the exterior. No wonder our electric bill is so high.
6)There was also a TON of mouse scat under the tub.
7)A beam was missing from the wall to accomodate the poorly constructed shower in another bathroom that adjoins this bathroom so the dry wall pooches out a bit due to lack of support.

Oh the joys of home ownership! Gotta love it!
