How to run a 5K in under 30 minutes
How I did it: It all started when I injured my knee in September of 2007. I needed to rehab my knee, and my wife and I decided to hike part of the Appalachian Trail in spring of 09. So we started jogging with some friends, and from that followed the goal to get my 5k time to under 30 minutes! This morning at the Jingle Bell Run in Huntington, West Virginia, I posted a time or 28:42!
All I did was set goals, and stick to training with the help of my wife, who is my exercise partner. In the process I attained another of my goals to lose 50 pounds!
Lessons & tips: Basically three things.
1. If you have an exercise goal, do it with someone else. It will keep you motivated to have a partner.
2. Set incremental goals that aren't so high that you can't reach them. Strive for a long string of successes along the path to your ultimate one.
3. Don't be discouraged. There are a lot of people who run all the time and they're faster than you are. That's ok. Run your own race and don't be upset if it takes a long time to make headway. Just use it as motivation to keep you moving along your path.
Resources: Keep track of your progress in a logbook, or journal. In my Lose 50 Pounds goal, I mentioned http://www.thedailyplate.com . It's a super helpfula nd free resource for food and fitness logging.
-GOOD LUCK!

I ran a 5k in May and it took me a little over 35 minutes. When I time myself now and I can do it in a little under 32 minutes. I’m going to running another race in October and would like to be under 30 minutes by then. I just need to keep my pace below 9:40 a mile. I can’t wait for the fall when it will cool down and not be so humid, I think my training will go alot better then.
I started running in May. My first 5k was in early july and I ended it at 31:24, without walking any of it. I had another this weekend and cut a little over a minute off my time. I am hoping that I can shave off another 25-30 seconds for my next run to get it under 30 minutes.
Today I ran in the Sudbury Rocks Marathon 5km race. I posted a time of 42:04. I came 45/64 in my age category (Female 20-29)
Today I ran in a 5k run and I finished in 30:06. The problem is that I’m an on again off again runner, so my goal is to run often enough to improve my speed….
I ran my first 5K yesterday. My time was 37:14. It was so awesome. I am now working towards getting my time under 30 minutes.
Someday I will run a 5k in under 30
New to running, love the way I feel afterwards, but every run is a struggle
MUST PRESS ON!
I ran a 5k on Labor Day and managed a time of 30:18! Now some might say that’s close enough, but I’m going to keep at it and hit that sub-30 minute time in an official race. I have two coming up toward the end of the year. I’ve started trying to lower my mile time so I can be more comfortable at a faster pace in a 5k. I ran an 8:07 minute mile last week. This one’s MINE! :)
Jassi75 will run into the spring soon
During a race last weekend I achieved 35:38 minutes. I improved from 36:52 minutes to this time, but to reach my goal I have to train much more, I guess. But, by the way, 6 months before I couldn’t even imagine to run a 5k, so…
