April - The Universe in a Nutshell 2 years ago

I recently read Hawking’s “The Universe in a Nutshell” and it was incredible. My brain hurt, but I felt like my mind was hearing a symphony right in tune with the infinite and finite nature of our universe and the music of God. I KNOW this sounds dramatic and crazy and unnatural. It is. and it was.

March 2007 - Survivor by C. Palahniuk 2 years ago

So I’m still in the middle of my February book, “Only Revolutions,” but I managed to squeeze in a half-credit unabridged book-on-CD. Now.. I prefer by ALL means to READ books with my own two eyes… but I love Palahniuk and a friend already had the CD, so I went with it. Plus, this might be one of the only books I’ve ever listened to that may have more impact when LISTENED to… as the narrator is speaking into the black box of a plane that he is about to crash. man.. Palahniuk is awesome. So. Goal still on target. 12 books for fun by the end of the year… 3 in the bag so far.

    ‘Only Revolutions’ by M.Z.Danielewski
So i’m about a month behind. Here it is nearly March and I have by no means gotten through my second book. Although, I would choose my most complicated book for the shortest month of the year :). Oh well… so far this read is definitely worth the mental effort and time. I read ‘House of Leaves’ almost two years ago and fell in love with it. I’m hoping ’...Revolutions’ also exceeds my expectations.

January 2007 - 'Galapagos' by Kurt Vonnegut 2 years ago

I like Vonnegut because he always makes me laugh. Satirically – of course, but genuinely, too.
“Somewhere along the line of evolution, the ancestors of [the flightless cormorant] must have begun to doubt the value of their wings, just as, in 1986, human beings were beginning to question seriously the desirability of big brains.” – K. Vonnegut, ‘Galapagos’

Of course, ‘Slaughterhouse Five’ is amazing, too. I love the idea of a caterpillar-like me, going through all of my growth and and change in one continuous motion, as one continuous being. Which, really, is what does happen. It’s just we don’t see like that. Anyway.

February’s will probably be ‘Only Revolutions’ by Mark Z. Danielewski.
