create my own fonts

I created a font based on my handwriting back in high school. It was fun, but tedious… It gave me a real appreciation for font-making, because it took a lot more time than I’d thought it would… Just to perfect the alignment and the sizing differences. But I didn’t really have any particularly special font-making software—just some freeware I found on the web. It was so satisfying, though, to pass on the font to friends and type up letters in my “own handwriting”. hah

Check out this book: Logo Font & Lettering Bible it’s a very straightforward guide to thinking about fonts and simple designs like that, it has tips for drawing in illustrator and common ‘gotchas’ that you might forget about.

Finally, just check out fontforge it works for MacOS X AND it’s free. Barring that, i might check out Type Tool or Fontlab, but it’s not worth spending your money if you don’t even know if you really want to make fonts.

I am a creative person specially when it comes to drawing/designing/graphics.. I did some Hebrew fonts back in 1998-99 and created a site for them which gotten quite popular.. (Although I didn’t update it for years) it has almost 150 visitors per day..!

Since then I’ve seen my fonts being used many times on street posters/shop signs/in the media.. Kinda bugs me that no one of my friends never really believes me that it was done by me..

Creating fonts is not an easy task.. it could take weeks or months getting it right..
I’d advise you to try doing fonts of your own handwriting.. this could be easy to do using Fontlab’s Scanfont:
