I find it really hard to do the most basic of poses now (that and I’m 20 years older!). I think I might be brave and see if I can find a class to join =)

How I did it: Persistence and not being hard on myself. Accepting my body's limitations upfront and just breathing into the "pain". Being present in the moment and celebrating when I reach a new threshold of flexibility. Read how I did it…

I’m taking a beginners class this summer. I’m excited. I need to get centered. Yoga will help me channel stress and be more in tuned with my body.

The teacher today said something that really clicked with me – about relaxing, enjoying, and really being present in yoga not treating it as a series of minor tortures to make yourself feel better about yourself. Breathing and focussing on your body is clearly the way forward – it becomes very medatative. The heat and sweat of bikram makes this harder in some ways but more rewarding when you do manage to get into the zone.

I stretch, tone, strenghten, do cardio. But my routine is hectic and someday I’d like to find time for yoga and pilates again, reconnect with my center, achieve greater balance.

I am trying out Bikram yoga at a studio near me. First impressions – it is hot – this makes you sweat and makes it harder to breath and in theory it makes you stretchier.
I am not sure I am ready to do it topless – this feels strangely wrong but I might change my mind.
The poses are classic Hatha yoga poses but you don’t hold anything too long – there are lots of poses in the class and most things are repeated.
It seems good at the moment – another 27 days left of the trial – I will let you know how it progresses.

Not the same as the old one – but different can be good.
The old one was Hatha with Trevor – the new one is Ashtanga with Fran.
We did Dragon flies over the world this week which is kind of cool.
It is not as hardcore but I think that is okay

I’ve actually done this before through a gym class (hatha yoga), but had to stop because of exams. I do practise the moves I’ve learnt at home, but I need more! :)
So I’m hoping to get back to that gym class and enjoy the serenity and the health benefits yoga brings!

I’ve done so many yoga goals on 43things and once they are completed,I roll up the mat and put it in the corner. I need to start by figuring out why I do that. I am consistent with going to the gym, and running and swimming but the yoga…I just quit. I am even consistent with doing the stretching I need to do to rehab my arm, but I don’t do yoga. My hips hurt after I run more than 5 miles and that’s entirely to being too tight.
So, I need to start by figuring out why I can’t do even 10 minutes of yoga daily, or a class weekly, or something.
