Annes class is pretty difficult but rewarding i think i’ll make sure I go each sunday.
What I Learned Today
- Headstands very difficult have to build it up – from childs pose cross arms in front clasp hands interlock fingers, open thumbs. Flat of head goes between hands, round of head supported by hands. Initial pose kind of looks like childs pose, kees are bent. This is quite difficlt for me as my hips are tight and my arms will have to carry alot of weight, more so than the final pose would have because this pose would be more centred. Almost no weight in the neck all in the arms. Do this only for next two months
- In sideways plank, feet can be staggered rather than layered (more properly) for better balance
- Take a towel to annes classes!
- Balance pose sequence – arms down seesaw over on one leg, keep balancing leg as straight as possible. Reach arms forward Make yourself like a T if yo can, a bent leg is ok. swing leg through, bent, hold in front of chesttouvch all fingertips together and hold/ Move to tree pose hold and release. My ankle is really burning after this one, much stronger on the right than the left. Can close my eyes for the right tree pose now :)

my limited experiences with yoga left me feeling relaxed and wanting more!

I’ve committed to either quitting or finishing something each week…here it is. I’ve been doing at least 1-2 hours of yoga per week and usually a little more. I hurt my neck like crazy in one class that my husband, a yoga teacher, told me was not good. So, I’ll skip the classes at the gym and continue the practice on my own. Hopefully, even without it being listed as a “thing” I’ll remain consistent. (I have with the swimming!)

The first class went well. I have to get a mat. I was sore, but I’m okay now…I’m gonna get better. Time, time, time…I will probably get a book to help me, so that I can do it at home too!

I find it really hard to do the most basic of poses now (that and I’m 20 years older!). I think I might be brave and see if I can find a class to join =)

I’m taking a beginners class this summer. I’m excited. I need to get centered. Yoga will help me channel stress and be more in tuned with my body.

Adrian ever changing like a butterfly
The teacher today said something that really clicked with me – about relaxing, enjoying, and really being present in yoga not treating it as a series of minor tortures to make yourself feel better about yourself. Breathing and focussing on your body is clearly the way forward – it becomes very medatative. The heat and sweat of bikram makes this harder in some ways but more rewarding when you do manage to get into the zone.

I stretch, tone, strenghten, do cardio. But my routine is hectic and someday I’d like to find time for yoga and pilates again, reconnect with my center, achieve greater balance.

Adrian ever changing like a butterfly
I am trying out Bikram yoga at a studio near me. First impressions – it is hot – this makes you sweat and makes it harder to breath and in theory it makes you stretchier.
I am not sure I am ready to do it topless – this feels strangely wrong but I might change my mind.
The poses are classic Hatha yoga poses but you don’t hold anything too long – there are lots of poses in the class and most things are repeated.
It seems good at the moment – another 27 days left of the trial – I will let you know how it progresses.
