Started Spanish lessons  — 3 weeks ago

I decided if I’m going to Costa Rica, it wouldn’t hurt to know the rudiments of Spanish. I signed up with LiveMocha.com to learn Spanish for free. I took my first lesson and it wasn’t bad. It’s a similar structure to French, which I grew up learning in school.

Costa Rica bound...  — 4 weeks ago

So I spent yesterday on-line checking out airfare, hotels, fun and stuff for a trip to Costa Rica. We’re staying with relatives while we’re down there. We have to stay overnight in Toronto going and coming, which adds $600 to the trip in hotel bills. Because we’re staying with relatives we don’t know that well, we won’t stay long…just five days. In the middle of a Canadian prairie winter…yippee!!! So now I’ve managed to attach a figure to the goal – $5000 – it’s time to start saving for it…that’s only…$700/mth…more or less. Five thousand is an outside high figure giving us well over $1000 spending money for five days. If we can’t live on that we’ve got problems!

I’ve actually wanted to go for environmental and community volunteer work as that’s huge in Costa Rica, the experience itself sounds amazing plus doing something good, hands on and seeing the change and people before my eyes is something I really want to be a part of while I’m still young

Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful countries ever – and is overrun with amazing animals. Friendly people, good food and great weather. What more could you want (apart from decent roads…!)?

Ticket Sales  — 2 months ago

Worth doing!

Go to farechase.yahoo.com (leave out the www) and check out the ticket sales for Costa Rica. Tickets get as low as $350 in June/July. Costa Rica is great and inexpensive (compared to the US/Europe). The accent is influenced by Europe. They speak very quickly and don’t drop their S’s like Boricuas. They pronounce tres (3) like “trace” instead of “tres”. They tend to shorten some words in half. They don’t use vos form (informal tu). CR is very good to tourists because their economy depends on them. I did white water rafting in the Pacuare River, Zip-lining in the forest, and to a butterfly dome near Volcan Poas. It’s beautiful. Everything tends to cost around $60 and includes breakfast or lunch. Hotels are about $25/night.
Go to Beach Manuel Antonio, the beach inside the national park is beautiful. See Volcan Arenal, which is a nice resort area, but you can find cheap hotels with a great view. The thermal springs in the area are beautiful.

who wouldn’t like to live in a country that has abolished it’s military and is spending the money on developing the economy, and its people. CR has the longest living population of ALL SA countries, is tropically springtime all year round, and has an exchange rate of 8 to one usa dollar!!
