organize a tulsa.rb group

Moving on to more titles..

OK, so it’s not really finished. We haven’t had a meeting yet. But I’m getting this goal off my list so I can add something more concrete, like “Have the first Tulsa.rb meeting.”

I just discovered that Pat (pate) is organizing the Ruby Programming Shop, a sort of learning workshop for new Rubyists. Do you guys have the spare time to get involved with this?

I’ve started an IRC channel on FreeNode. I know the two of you have Ubuntu installed, so fire up xchat/irssi and /join. :)

Well I went ahead and posted something to comp.lang.ruby and got very little feedback. The two people who said they would come at least some of the time don’t live in Tulsa, which is fine, but a little disappointing since I was hoping to find several Tulsa Rubyists. Is this as disappointing as it seems, or do I just have unrealistic expectations?

I wonder if the linux group would be interested in joining the ruby group? Could be something to bring up if we have the gumpshin (sp?).

I’m excited that this might actually work. I’ve never organized a group of people like this, but I’m hopeful. For now, we’ll group together on 43T, but once we get some more people on-board, I (or someone) will need to create a web site to get us organized.

At this point, we need a better way to find Tulsa-Ruby people. Where are they? Are they hanging around in IRC (which I don’t frequent)? If I get bold, I might send something to the Ruby mailing list. But not yet. I guess I’m afraid I’ll look like a moron.

zerokarmaleft says they’re from Tulsa and want to do Ruby/Rails stuff. Now if I can only get in touch with this person…
