Visit 30 countries before I am 30

We took the train from Ljubljana to Zagreb – the capital of Croatia, and arrived just as it was getting dark. Our taxi driver tried to outrageously rip us off and then we were shown to our room which mysteriously didn’t have any curtains. So, not a good start.

Next we took a tram ride (the trams in the city centre are free – which is nice) and went the wrong way – getting lost in high rise suburbia at a place where a kind stranger (who spoke brilliant English) told us she had never seen a tourist. Ooops.

But we eventually got back to the main square and found an awesome local restaurant and ate more meat and bread than two people should and had a great night.

So ups and downs for Croatia, but still it was country 30 so I can hardly complain!

We flew with Ryanair to Trieste in Italy and took a combination of trains, taxis and buses to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana – which was absolutely beautiful.

It was tiny enough to walk around with ease, we stayed overlooking the river and the cafes were lovely.

My only criticism would be that we couldn’t find any Slovenia restaurants and instead had to settle for Mexican – hardly authentic! We did find a Hot Horse though, if you fancy a horse burger…

Just got back from a long weekend in Dusseldorf, it was fab. With the exhange rate being pretty terrible, it worked out expensive but fun nevertheless.

I also re-instated Canada – as I’m getting a bit too close to my birthday for comfort!

Sweden and Germany trips are booked very cheaply – the accommodation and airport parking will be the pricey bit.

With a ‘summer’ holiday in September or October that’ll make the grand total of countries visited 29…

I stayed in Sardinia over Easter, and it was freeeeeeezing, but beautiful. As it counts as Italy, I am still only on 26 countries, but I wanted to add an entry to remind myself I’ve been there!

Well, I am approaching 30 – my memory’s not what it used to be!

Just a few miles, well a half-hour drive say, from Vienna is the Slovakian capital Bratislava where I also stayed for one night during the weekend break.

While there wasn’t too many ‘touristy’ things to do, I loved, loved loved it. The prices were much kinder to the credit card and we found an awesome pub where we drank beer with the locals and ate pork and cabbage all evening long – brilliant.

I visited Vienna for a weekend break way back before Christmas. We only stayed one night, as part of cheapy RyanAir break, but nevertheless seeing the city full of festive spirit was fantastic.

The rate of exchange between the Euro and Pound however meant it was very pricey, for EVERYTHING but particularly in the delighftul coffee shops I wanted to live in.
