as i am typing this entry, i am listening to president obama’s inauguration speech because i missed it on tv this morning. i am a 19-year old college student in the 21st century. i am no longer a young kid; therefore, i cannot just ignore politics anymore. there is SO MUCH going on around us, how can one ignore all of it? i want to keep up with the current events and all that. i should watch the news and read the newspaper regularly. as cheesy as it is, our generation is inevitably the future. how can you trust the future with ignorant people? i need to NOT be one of those ignorant people.

I’m getting there. I am more politically aware now than I was when I first made this my goal, but there’s still a lot more knowledge to be gained before I would consider myself ‘aware’.
I’m paying more attention now, but I’d like to know more about international issues and politics. There’s so much all the time, and I’d like to keep up better.
vegmom is cramping.
and these days, i think it is necessary to atleast know what is going on.

in the last presidential election. This is in large part because I was completely uninformed about the candidates. I’ve decided that this election year is far too important for me to ignore. Though I disagree with our two-party system, the first step in changing it is to become involved. I would also pledge to become more involved in my local elections, as I feel those are actually much more important, but I’m never in my home state. So that, I believe, is for another time.

i think i’m ALOT more politically aware than i used to be. Taking classes on politics and making CNN, Time & Colbert Report a daily thing helps haha

Probably when I was beginning secondary school at eleven or twelve I made my mind up to become more politically aware, although to be honest I was aware of a certain sort of “politics” before that, the power of bullies and there cronnies, power dynamics in the class room between teachers and student things like that.
I think you’ve got to be politically aware, there are political divisions in every workplace, neighbourhood, family or group, sometimes its just one of those things and at other times its totally awful and everyone is trying to watch their backs or implicate each other in bad decisions.
I’ve investigated lots of different political ideologies, I’m less partisan and more sceptical than I once was, although that doesnt make me conservative. I think one of the most clear sighted authors anyone interested in politics could consider is Machavelli, all his work though, not just “The Prince”.
When I do get a chance to read the news, I sometimes end up feeling confused and overwhelmed. A lot happens between my news-reading spurts.
This is why I am setting aside a short period of time every day to catch up on politics. I may be really busy, but I will always have twenty minutes of free time available to browse news sites online.
Once I actually know what is going on in the country, I will be better eqipped to go deeper into individual issues. One thing at a time!
The fact that I have very nearly reached voting age serves as a major encouragement to become more politically aware (and as soon as possible).
