Stormygirl getting stuff done!

Untitled 7 months ago

I actually knuckled down today and got a serious amount of work done and I feel amazing for it.
Very happy to report this progress.

Ok – would just like to report that I just went and did two hole activities!!! Admittedly I started with the easiest ones on my list but it still feels great – going to do more!

I have quite a bit of stuff to do at work – I know that if I do it now, I will feel good about myself but everytime I go to start I think of something else I can do to procrastinate. i.e. just went to read all of my unread work emails and then though ‘I’m going to join the 43 things goal group on stop procrastinating on procrastinating’ and so here I am PROCRASTINATING. Part of me thinks that if I am procrastinating so much then I’m obviously in the wrong career (which is true and I hate my job) however…at the end of the day even if I were to quit my job this minute I would still need to hang around for my 4 weeks notice and so I would have to do this stuff anyway. Moral of the story…I should just do it.

I’m going to give it a red hot go and report back…

well i guess you can say that this is one of my weakness, i have a tendency of putting things like my homework to the last minute. or washing dishes and other things like doing other things for people. i want to stop procrasting but i procrastinate on doing that, so i really need to find a solution.

Two Ineffective Actions 16 months ago

Procrasination (1) is actually an action. It can be the act of deciding not to decide. It can the act of delaying something that should be done. In fact a lot of time, energy, thoughts (negative, mostly) and money (personal time has value – whether for private use or business) can be expended on “putting it off.”

Futher, laziness (2) is not inaction. We are acting all the time that we are alive. Lounging around, watching TV, sitting on your butt eating chips that’s is actually quite tiring. Lying in bed all day during holidays or Saturday is actually quite draining.

Now do you believe me?

Start with something small that doesn’t really matter. Just do it. That way it dosn’t matter if “it isn’t perfect.” Do it again with something similar. Do it a few more times. Graduate on to somthing medium sized that doesn’t truly matter. Do a little preparation then go for it! Do a few more like this.

Then try something small that does matter somewhat. Ask yourself “why I am delaying this?” It is difficult to handle? Unpleasant? Hard to understand? Too much work? Can’t be bothered? Be BRUTALLY honest – there’s absolutely no capital to be gained by lying to yourself. Whatever wrong, try to fix it. Does it really need to be perfect? Why? If you just can’t do it yourself enlist the services of a goal buddy – just someone you report to. Just the act of having to report to someone else (even if they are not in authority in relation to you) can be a powerful motivator.

Once the majority of the major objections are out of the way then just do it. Keep at it graduating onto bigger, better and more important things.

Now let’s see if I can do this…
