Help? 4 hours ago

Can anyone suggest the best video tutorials for me? I have tried some on youtube but sadly they haven’t been much help.

Also is the book ‘The Happy Hooker’ any good? I’ve bought it but can’t understand it either!

I am a keen knitter so i don’t understand why i can’t get the hang of crochet!

Red yarn bulletproof chainmail scarf DONE! 1 week ago

However, judging from the way it looks, I don’t think this project means I actually know how to crochet.

internet tutorials! 1 week ago

Honestly, I just watched a lot of internet tutorials, sat there for a few hours with a crochet needle and some yarn, and I eventually got it. I’ve tried showing several friends how to do it, and although they catch on, they don’t have the patience to stick with it :p It’s definitely something I enjoy doing when I’m bored.

I started practicing my chain stitch yesterday.... 1 week ago

... And it’s already a little easier, and looks a (tiny) bit more even. My fingers need to get used to being in a new position. I got a beginner’s learn to crochet kit that had a variety of hooks and such to start me off. I chose the Susan Bates kit because it specifically said on the front of it that it included instructions for left handers. My fingers feel like they’re just fumbling around, but I bet that’ll pass within the week. So far I can do the chain stitch nice and even for about 2 inches at the most, and then it goes a little haywire. When I can do it for a full foot or so, then I’ll turn the page and move on to the single crochet stitch. Most of the women in my family have crocheted, and I’ve always wanted to learn (I had no patience for it, though, when I was younger). I might check out some online tutorials later.

A Simple Question 2 weeks ago

I just have a simple question:

Are there crochet starter kits at places like Hobby Lobby?
I’ve never crocheted in my life but want to learn.

Got a crochet sampler going. 2 weeks ago

I found this site (nextstitch.com) from someone who completed this goal:

http://www.nexstitch.com/v_crochet_videos.html

I created a couple of rows for each of the basic stitches that they presented (except for slip stitch – doesn’t really work for many rows)

My sampler got narrower and narrower as I worked more rows – Then I had to read the section on “Turning your work”. I recommend not bothering with turning the work correctly until one has the hang of doing rows of stitches. Then the turning of the work will make more sense.

I downloaded each of the real player videos for each of the stitches – short good quality video of how to do each stitch. I also found reading the description of the stitch useful – because it shows how to recognize this stitch’s code in a pattern. Not having yet attempted a pattern – I think this will be useful info.

She takes it really slowly – like you could be crocheting along with her – which is the kind of attention I need with this.

It looks like the hardest part is creating the first little ring of chain stitches because it is hard to see what you really have.

Ugh. 2 weeks ago

This might turn into “seriously try to learn how to knit”, because crocheting is SO HARD. I tried for a good 3 hours last night and I just can’t get the feel of it. I pulled out my knitting bag from when I was trying to learn how to knit and I actually made more progress than I had though – I made a little patch last time I tried. A friend of mine just came in and told me I should get big needles and start off with those when I try knitting again, so – that’s what I’ll do! My mom knits and has all sorts of needles and could probably help me if I asked her. Anywho, I’m not giving up on crocheting, but it is definitely much harder than I had thought.

Squee!! 2 weeks ago

SO, today on my lunch hour I went to Michaels. I got a snazzy crocheting hook in a pretty moss green color and some awesome yarn in a gorgeous teal. I have no idea what I’m going to crochet, nor do I know how to yet, but I’m going to go home tonight and try to learn (via the internet and a book from the library). I’m so excited!! Maybe before the winter is over I’ll be able to make a blanket =D
