Pay off my HECS debt

When it comes to your last payment financial year, you can save some serious money if you voluntarily pay the difference (as there is a discount for voluntary payments) and then when you put your tax return in they will reimburse you the money they took for HECS over the year. I had to borrow but I ended up better off as my tax money came in 2 weeks later.

I have my 1st real-degree-using job since uni and with that and the money comes paying back hecs, so i’m getting there, whether i want to or not!

okay… so right now I’m still at uni, struggling along as student, so its not a priority, but ONE day I want to be able to pay it off

I just got my statement today and in total I owe $18903 which is a LOT of money :(
Also on the print out there are all of the debits but no credits when I know money comes out of my pay each week to pay HECS so I will need to look into that to find out what happens…

$50 came out of my last pay apparently, wonder how it’s all kept track of… Also wonder how much I actually owe at the moment but I think I’ll get my statement at Tax time so that should be okay.

started uni just when fees were introduced. i can’t believe university used to be free. is it even worth paying HECS upfront if you’re not working full time?

Think it’s still missing my 2006 subjects but as of this statement I owe $15841. That’s going to be fun to pay back.

Still don’t know exactly how much my HECS debt is as the printout is at my parents somewhere (lost in the rubble) but out of my first paycheck $62. went towards HECS so the pay back has started. Going to take a while but it’s started!

First step is to find out how much it is. Phoned up today and they are sending me out the full version of everything I owe so it should be here in a wk or so. I’m going to guess around $20000…lets wait and see how close I am.

But first off, need to find out exactly I much I owe. Should be about $20-30K. Hopefully :/
