If you’re in Fort Greene on October 24th then head on over to their launch party starting at 7pm.

It’s like the mecca of indies. Four floors of awesome new and used books. They code the death out of this place so as long as your are literate and not color blind you can find your way around. Otherwise you can ask one of the many Powellians roaming around where to find something.
Oh, and like every other place in Portland – they have good beer.

Living in NYC I am surrounded by a plethora of indie books shops, each with their own distinct personality. I tend to buy books from my own shop because of the spiffy employee discount I get, but I feel slightly guilty about ignoring all the other shops, especially when they have interesting events going on. Now more than ever I want these shops to thrive so I’m making it a personal goal to at least buy one book from each of the shops I dig – employee discounts be damned.
