Email from Blizzard - my closure 3 years ago

When I closed my account I sent Blizzard an email (you can read it below the answer) because the webpage said they would like to hear from people that quit.

I received a nice answer mail and I feel this gives me closure on the matter.

Here is the mail from them (names are crossed out):

Hello XXXX,

Thank you for your E-mail. We appreciate the time you have taken to inform us of
your reason of leaving World of Warcraft. We take your comment and suggestions
very seriously and will take them in consideration for any future game
modifications. We are sorry to see you go, and would appreciate any further
comments or suggestions you have about World of Warcraft, and how we could
improve it for you.

Please be assured your friend will not be subjected to any penalties for
receiving your gold.

We would be happy to answer any questions or try to find solutions to any
problems you may have, so please do not hesitate to contact us again and we look
forward to welcoming you back to World of Warcraft in the future.

Kind regards,

XXXXXXX

My original email to Blizzard:

Dear Sir or Madam,

On the bottom of the https://www.wow-europe.com/account/menu.html page, a notice
is written about Blizzard’s interest in hearing from those who cancel their
accounts.

Today I finally gave up on WoW. It was fun for a while, but it got too hard some
months after I turned 60. I am a father of three small children and I can’t play
at the typical guild run hours. It was very hard to find a hardcore guild that
would do guild runs late at night (after 2100 CET). I tried a few guilds, but
they were only talking the talk, not walking the walk. My best BRD runs were in
PUGs, but it gets kind of lonely when you only play PUGs, and you start feeling
like a left-over from the hardcore guilds. Solo quests and grinding starts to
get uninteresting after you have gotten the taste for BRD and such places.

People tell me that I have been a good tank, and I have usually been very
patient and proud of that role.

I am not very good at PvP. My warrior can’t catch hunters who freeze me 3 times
in a row while shooting from a distance. Other opposing classes all seem to have
some advantage over my warrior, but it’s just as likely PEBCAK (Problem Exists
Between Chair And Keyboard). I lost interest in dueling and PvP very early. When
people attack, I usually just sit down and let them have their fun, preparing
for yet another ghost run. I haven’t even considered visiting a battleground.

I have made one new friend while playing this game. He’s in Iceland, I’m in
Norway, but we have formed a real relationship that has also spilled over into
MSN and E-mail. I hope I can one day visit him. Just before cancelling my
account and uninstalling the game from my computer I sent him most of the gold
my senior char had on him (100G). Afterwards I thought that maybe this financial
move might be taken in the wrong spirit by those who watch over the economy of
Azeroth. The donation was unsolicited and I will not receive any hard currency
cash from him. I HOPE YOU DO NOT SUBJECT HIM TO BANNING OR OTHER PUNISHMENT. The
mail was from XXXX to XXXX, both on the XXXXXXX realm.

I don’t pretend to know how to change the game such that it would be interesting
for me to come back. I think it is a wonderfully crafted game, artistically and
technically. There are plenty of people on the net that think they can do
better, I’m not one of them.

Thanks for the good times.

Yours truly

Still no playing 3 years ago

My account is closed, and the software uninstalled.

I remember the game as a source of frustration. The good memories I have from the game are far overshadowed by the bad.

A good memory: Meeting Redspike (a rl mate) and his dog Rabidmaggot in Bloodhoof, and questing together around lvl 7-8.

A bad memory: A BRD run where our healer turned out to be 15 years old and way past bedtime. He had to shut down his computer and pretend to sleep every 5 minutes because his parents came up the stairs. Typical of my late night PUG runs with marginal players.

Sooo easy 3 years ago

Once you have gotten to level 60, tried a few wannabe guilds, found out that you can’t play during hardcore hours because of family chores, played a few bad PUG raids, unsuccessfully applied for a hardcore guild, found out that you can’t use Ventrillo without waking the kids, started 8 alts, realized that you will get tired of your alts long before they reach 60, gotten a purple world random drop that was shite anyway, tried solo PvP with a warrior too many times, and watched your hardcore friends ride über-epic mounts its amazingly easy to quit playing.
