If you didn't guess... 21 months ago

I never got round to making the backup device I was planning two years ago, and I’m still rather ad-hoc about doing them, despite strongly recommending them to others…

    drupal 2 years ago

I’ve setup a forum with drupal as design & code review tool for my team. Its data must be backup constantly

    MySQL 3 years ago

I should start to backup MySQL database since all my private blog, bookmark, and bugs are stored there.

    They are critical to me.

    incremental backup 3 years ago

Finally, I find a way to backup my website incrementally with wget.

    wget -m -w 5—random-wait—ftp-user=myname—ftp-password=mypasswd “ftp://my.host.machine/mypath/*”

This command has potential security issue but it’s ok for me. :-)

    del.icio.us 3 years ago

    It’s time to backup del.icio.us.

    backup website 3 years ago

I start to use wget to backup my website. Since it only download newly modified files, lots of bandwidth is saved. For windows user, you could get it by install Cygwin from http://www.cygwin.com/

Batch files, Linux and Norton Ghost!

    edit

I no longer can recommend Ghost. It messed up some partition tables pretty bad. I’m using Acronis TrueImage now.

Too Little, Too Late? 3 years ago

Well my backups had been fairly lackluster up until my hard drive crashed a little over a month ago. Since then I’ve been religious about backing things up whenever I get the chance, which ends up equating to once or twice a week. Having a RAID solution would be ideal, but not realistic for a laptop.

I'm working on a device... 4 years ago

I’m working on a device which I plan to sell to small businesses in the UK to help with this. After all, if it fixes my problem, and I make it easy to use, it should fix many others problems.

In the mean time I’m trying to make sure that I back up each week, which I don’t always remember…

I knew I'd miss something 4 years ago

In all my backing up, drive imaging, backing up of backups, etc. before the Great Laptop Format, I knew I’d forget something: fonts! However, if that’s the only thing, I can deal with that.

I’ve been using Memeo and was loving it at first, but when I was bringing the laptop back up, it wouldn’t find the backups to restore them! I ended up having to manually move the files back over and do a search for all the Memeo files it created to delete them. And it’s supposed to be constantly monitoring for file changes, but it didn’t seem to be 100% reliable. So nevermind that program :\
