So this Winter Break, my friend Colin, who is now teaching English in Japan, came home! And instead of renting a car, I offered to drive him as long as he paid for gas and meals.

A mutually beneficial arrangement. We went from the northern boonies of Iowa to the western edge of Indiana (accidentally!) Chicago to the Twin Cities!

It was amazing, and all I had to do was drive. No job to worry about, no significant other, no family ties binding me to an area, just me, Colin, and the road. We stayed with friends, occasionally ate with friends or had his family buy us meals! It was amazing and all it cost me was a week. And one tank of gas. 1600 miles of travel and it cost me only time and one tank of gas!

I feel completely confined within this… “life” for lack of a better description. Get a degree, get a job, make a career, live in inevitable debt, buy a house, buy a car, eat this, don’t eat that, find a wife, make some kids, get old, do old people things, die.
    It’s sickening, it’s dehumanizing, it’s America, it’s the world.

I don’t want to be rich, I just want to be without overwhelming debt. I want to do something with my life, but I don’t want that to become my life.
