We’ve got the stuff sitting on our kitchen table, we just haven’t done it yet, as our life is a crazy hectic newlywed mess = ) We’ll get there!

It was one thing to watch those insane videos of the mentos geyser after geyser but it is something else to see a single one in person. That thing shot up at least 20 feet almost instantly and I barely missed getting a facefull when it erupted.

waiting for a warm day 2 years ago

I bought the mentos mints which now include instructions on how to mix them with soda. Now I just need a warm day and its all to go in the backyard.

    Food.... ? 3 years ago

It never ceases to amaze me how dangerous some of our foods can be.

Many people seem to have seen this somewhere on the internet, but are unaware that the best results occur with a certain Coke product and a certain sized bottle, used in conjunction with a certain quantity of Mentos.

Use a 3-liter (brand new) bottle of Diet Coke and 6 to 8 Mentos. Setup has to be quick. Get some scotch tape and remove the lid, then lightly tape the mentos to the inside of the lid in a stack. Very simple.

Next, hold the bottle upright and carefully replace the lid with the mentos attached to the inside. Only the bottom half of the stack should be in the coke when the bottle is upright, but those should almost immediately begin to react with the acidic, brown liquid.

The pressure in the bottle will almost immediately begin to increase, so be outside and ready for launch when you put the stuff together – the bottle can explode at any time once the pressure begins to build, so dont waste it. Assemble it on site.

Once the Mentos are in and the lid is on, smash the bottle into the ground with the bottom facing away from you. It should take off like a rocket and fly pretty far. I had to try it numerous times before I got it to work the way I wanted it to. As far as I know, the method I described above is the most effective means by which one might expect to achieve the now famous “rocket effect”.

If you have the guts to attempt it, I wish you the best of luck.
