build a bird feeder for the birds in my backyard

The intent was to have cool birds, but instead I attracted a bunch of pigeons. Yuck.

I had printed out a plan from the internet, but my parents have one they bought that uses hardware wire, and the birds peck out their seeds from those little holes. They love that feeder, so my dad helped me design one similar, and we put a litlte shingled mahogoney roof on it too. We hung it out at their place to see if they used it, and they loved it. So it’s in the back of hte car, and i just need to get a shepherds hook so I can hang it in my backyard. I have enough scrap left to build another one for someone this christmas, too.

but right now my cheap feeder seems to be working just fine. maybe this fall i will finally sit down and put one together.

I made a really slaphazard feeder out of some scraplumber a couple years back and the birds loved it,especially in the fall and the weather turns cold,they appreciate they extra calories,and they’re fun to watch!

the official goal is bird feeder, but I may build a house instead… In any case, I just printed out plans for a house AND a feeder to make this summer (with my dad’s help)

I realized how cool it was last summer; I was up at my parents’ land and I sat with binoculars and a bird book, trying to identify them. I have been wanting to put a bird feeder outside my city townhome since then, and maybe now that it’s on my list, I will actually do it.

but i am still using my 3 dollar plastic one right now. Yesterday a red-headed woodpecker ate from my feeder. it hung on the side of the thing slinging huge beakfulls of seed out, to the great pleasure of the little birds around the feeder, it was digging for the sun-flower seeds.

well since people found out i was feeding birds from my back porch… bird feeders keep showing up at my house, i have big ones, little ones, fancy ones, plain ones, i even have one of those wire grid ones you put the square seed cakes in.

but i still want to build my own, hopefully within the next few weeks.

well i bought a $3.00 bird feeder at the store, but i am still going to build my own. still have to hang my rugged plastic birdfeeder though.
