i went tonight, or last night as it is now 4:30 am. i saw wanted, the hulk, and forgetting sarah marshall. three movies in one night for $13 with my lovelyy friends <333
Sought out the last drive-in in Vancouver a few weeks ago with a full car load of people. Was the biggest hassle trying to find the place, then parking in a good spot and moving round within the car so that everybody could see but was definetely worth it. Got to see three movies for ten bucks (as well as the hysterical dancing popcorn adverts between movies) and had a fantastic night. Can’t wait to go back.
I go to drive-ins every chance I get – just on principle, besides the pleasure of the summer breeze blowing thru my windows while I watch a double feature. But in my dreams Drive-Ins would go back to showing fabulous R rated horror movies instead of kiddie fare.
We are lucky here in Kansas City, we have two drive ins…I think we might have three even, not sure on that one though. Most towns don’t have them anymore. The one on I-70 has four screens and they show the first movie again after the second…so for seven bucks you can see three flicks. Plus you can drink, smoke, kick back in your car, back of the truck, whatever. I haven’t been forever…
we no longer have on in town, but I remember hiding my brother under the back fold down seat to get him in free and my dad having a fit when he found out about it. Ahh, my mom was the one driving and letting us hide him. Grocery bags of popcorn, cans of soda pop, Black Cows and cups of ice cream were the snacks of choice.
We have a three screen drive-in 15 minutes from our house. Tonight we are going to see the third X-men movie. It will most likely suck, but who cares when you are in the back of a truck?
We did this often when I was growing up because it was a cheap family outing, it didn’t disturb a theater full of folks when we kids talked, and we could take our own popcorn.
One night that was especially memorable was when I was in high school. My mom was a HUGE Elvis fan and there was an Elvis marathon at the drive-in the night of “Spring Forward” time change. We had a blast watching movies as well as the documentary about his concerts. We got home in the wee small hours because of the time change, so were very tired the next day, but it remains one of my fondest memories of my mom.
My dad was a projectionist, so when we were kids, we went to work with him all the time. The projection booth, concession stand and playground were a second home!
There is nothing quite like a movie at the drive-in!
