It is not the grandest composition, but I am able to play “My Heart Will Go On” using standard piano keys. I can even do it without making mistakes and almost never looking at the music notes I have taped over my desk.
What I can play are the vocal equivalents of the song. That is, the parts Celine sings, with none of the background supporting music. But I can hear it in my head, and I think with a year or two of practice I could probably turn out a halfway decent rendition. While driving back from Virgina last week my wife noticed me as I methodically tapped my fingers over imaginary keys. I realized then that I could play the song with my right hand, anyway. It’s not much better than “Chopsticks”, but I know a C from an F and I can find G on a keyboard and if you know that, apparently everything else falls into place. S. recommended I get an electronic roll-up keyboard so I could practice by actually touching the notes with my fingertips, rather than clicking on them with my mouse. I think she has found my efforts a bit amusing, and a bit charming. 16 months ago

I found an online piano keyboard that I can play by clicking on each key. I also found sheet music, and a note-by-note breakdown of the song, along with a couple of YouTube tutorials. I have learned the basic key layout of the piano, but the mysteries of the foot pedals and the various keys they produce still elude me. I cannot seem to push multiple keys with this virtual piano, so I am currently just “plinking” the vocal chords part one key at a time, which is probably best for my level of learning, anyway. Once I get the main vocal parts down and memorized, I will try creating the “background” chords, that is, the part I would be playing with my left hand.
For the most part, I have no idea what I am talking about, but when I tap-tap-tap the keys, I can actually hear the music. Which is pretty cool for me. 17 months ago

How I did it: I learned to read music at 6, and excelled at cold reading sheet music. Practiced an average of 20 minutes a day, up until the 2 weeks before where i had rehearsals 2 hours a day 2 times each week. Read how I did it… 2 years ago
