augustgarage had it right many months ago, you can fix most of these problems yourself. All you need to do is a better internet search than just “fix my camera”. Maybe “do it yourself digital camera repair” along with the specific problem that you’re encountering? I know for a fact there exists solutions for most of the listed problems here.
As examples, include these terms too with your search: pookiepoo there are several things to check for a camera that “won’t power on”. littlemindedbrat, there’s a very simple fix for a camera that “shuts down prematurely”. bagelmuffin, there is a simple technique to unstick a “stuck shutter” on a digital camera. and untitled from way back, there are alternative ways to “download photos” without even using the camera. 2 years ago

I need to bring a roll of adhesive tape with me, though the tape survives one or two changes of batteries. It is good enough for me.
Snapped these while in Brussels:

As the “lock” to the battery compartment is broken, adhesive tape seems to be my best choice. Did patch it up an take some pictures, but the springs stresses the tape over a few hours.
Well, it needs changing when I switch batteries or take them out for recharging anyway. Maybe this is the only way.
Not sure if it is possible to “weld” plastic, especially such small parts as this. 3 years ago

It is only the battery door that is broken. It takes standard AA batteries, and is relatively practical in that way. Switch batteries if your rechargeables go out.
We have gotten a replacement camera that is better, but I liked the grip on the CoolPix. It would be available for me to carry around, too – as the “new one” needs to be available to my SO. (Since she is the one that usually takes pictures).
Will need to find a way to fix it. 3 years ago

I am almost entirely sure now that I am getting a new one for Christmas. My mom let it drop that she told my dad in passing I need a new one, and he called me last night to tell me not to throw any of my camera accessories away as he could use them. He already has his own, and his camera is completely different from mine… 5 years ago

I have a sneaking suspicion that I may be getting a new one for Christmas. By sneaking suspicion I mean my mother told me last night that she let my father, who LOVES cameras and has been the one who has bought every single camera I have ever owned my entire life, that my last one broke. 5 years ago

i cannot find the box, my mom can’t find the receipt, and the warranty is going to expire soon (if it hasn’t already). I may just get a new one for Christmas (I’m thinking Fuji Finepix E900). 5 years ago

Lame. I didn’t even want a digital camera, and now here I am being whiny because it isn’t working. I should have seen it coming. I did the same thing with cell phones and DVD’s, although I must say I still have/love my VCR. 5 years ago

I dropped my Nikon 4500, and the zoom function stopped working. I took out the screws, got the case off, pried off the zoom button and discovered a flimsy piece of plastic was broken off…I widdled down a tiny piece of a matchstick as a replacement, put the button and case back on…put the screws back in, and it works again. I hope to replace it eventually with something like the Ricoh GR-Digital or the Panasonic L-1…but at least I got it working without having to shell out money to a repairman.
