kepi stole the cookie from the coo-coo-kie jar
.. and then put it back again. I have a newfound motivation to finish it now I’m in a new house .. but I do have to go to the movies tonight.
I will borrow my boyfriend’s dad’s electric sander to start the job next weekend rather than having to start by hand this weekend!!

I’m pretty useless with stuff like this so i’m going to say yes. I was given a slatted chair made from untreated timber for my 21st bday two years ago and I bought stain and varnish for it a week after. It’s still sitting unfinished in my wardrobe. I’m a little intimidated about staining and varnishing it, the guy at the hardware made it sound like it’s a big deal with all the sanding and such.
I might dedicate a weekend to it and buy a pair of overalls or something for inspiration.

I made a desk tidy in school. I don’t think this counts but it was pretty difficult, even though it was only made of 3 pieces of wood painted blue and stuck together. haha.

it wasn’t exactly the bench in itself and not exaclty a protoype, it is a kind of model in real scale (1:1).
now the bench wich is integrated to a terrasse have been build by carpenters and is part of an architectural project…

A few years ago I decided that i would build a couch with a car stereo built into the armrest. Well, I almost did this…..We got the frame built, mounted the stereo, amp, speakers, and some dimmable lights, and even added a refrigerator under the center seat. And at that point we had the most bumpin’ couch ever!!......Except it was just a bench. At that point, life got a little busy, and I never got a chance to finish it. One of my friends ended up taking it, and throwing a futon matress over it. Very fun project, even if I didn’t really finish it.

I recently moved into a new apartment that needs some work. When the windows were all redone the scraps and old window sills were left in my apartment. I thought why drag all this stuff out into the garbage, and then drag new expensive furniture inside? Why not just keep all this stuff here and make it furniture?
So an old door became my table seating 8. And the frames from the windows serve as the table legs. The old window sills are perfect bench seats and some ready-made adjustable legs from the home improvement store became the bench legs.
It’s very satisfying to do something like that and the challenge is something healthy to have a go at! It’s the cheapest dining set out there too!
There are still some things to work at… I kept one of the old windows which has two panes and they open and close with hinges so I’m going to stick some tiny legs on it too and make a coffee table that can contain stuff between the two sheets of glass and will open and close. Two other windows will become some picture frames and I’m going to turn another door into a piece for the entrance. I’ll stick a mirror on it and some hooks to hang hats and jackets on. Lots of similar little projects to go…

I built with my own two hands, a giant bench which has two places for sitting and holds paper in the middle, as a new form of a book which brings people together to read a book which takes up a larger space and can be read by more than one person at a time. It was definitely worth it and after all of the ideation and designing of the book, building this piece to make it all happen felt great. I am happy to have had this experience. I will post a photo of the book/bench sometime soon if I can find one.
