I’m normally a resident of the UK but I moved to Vancouver for a year. No particular reason, other than my home country is depressing and I wanted somewhere new.

It’s a good confidence booster, for sure. Lots of people told me, “I could never do that!” and I wasn’t scared at all, which is unusual. Makes me feel like i’m not a total wuss, like I used to.

Everyone must do this at least once! It really broadens your perspectives on things, and shows you how huge and varied this wonderful world is.

Yesterday I was wishing I’d had this ambition when I was 18 or 17, but the world was all so BIG to me then. And at 22, I couldn’t think beyond gettig a job. I needed some real spirituality and self help stuff back then. Too bad I didn’t get it…

Also back then I probably would have thought of going to Mexico or something and then Ghana when I was in my 20s when I think I really just want to go the Europe I’ve been reading about for probably over 25 years now.

Okay, so maybe Canada isn’t really abroad, but believe me, it’s definitely different from the US.

When i travel i am always stuck in a touristy spot where i can’t see the true culture and living in a country will make me be able to really immerse myself in their culture.

living abroad...  — 2 weeks ago

I’m from the US and as a kid I lived in Costa Rica for a couple of years – I loved it! People are often reluctant to take their kids abroad becuase they think it will be too disruptive, but – for me – it was a wonderful experience and it really expanded and reshaped my world view.

I guess that experience and other travel I did with my family in Latin America stuck with me, becuase now I live in Colombia. Sometimes it’s challenging and living abroad as an adult is obviously very different than being a kid…but, overall, I’m happy I’m here.

I spent almost every summer of my life in the south of France and I honestly feel more at home there than anywhere else. My parents have a house in the mountains and I plan to someday (soon) pack my bags and move down there for a bit. Just do odd jobs and sit on the roof in the evenings looking out on the mountains, writing my songs.

I would also like to live in the US – that might come true next year. I plan to apply to a particular acting school. One of my best friends starts his studies there this fall and I’d love to join him if possible.

    We’ll see.

Moved from Santa Cruz, CA to Buenos Aires, Argentina seven months ago. The most challenging and yet rewarding thing I have done yet. Love it.
