Currently I still have a relaxer and my hair is very damaged and I have split ends like crazy…It’s so bad that I want to cut it off right now, but I’m going to TRY to have self control…LOL… I’m excited and I CAN’T WAIT!!! It’s about time I embraced “me”.

How to grow out my relaxer and have natural hair"I overreacted at first but now I'm happy"
How I did it: I stopped getting my hair relaxed 9 months ago. I didn't want to chop my hair off when it was too short. So I grew it out and wore my hair in a style called the curly fro. Search for it on YouTube and you can find videos about how to do a curly fro. Lessons & tips: Take your time during the transition process and don't chop off your hair until you are ready! Do a lot of research and start using natural hair products as soon as possible. Buy what you need so that you are ready to go when you chop. Learn different ways to style your hair. I think doing a curly fro for months made cutting my hair less of a shock to myself and other people because my hair had been shorter and curly for months. Its also good to collect photos of hairstyles you like and hair idols. Resources: I researched a lot on Youtube, www.nappturality.com, all of my blogs that I saved on http://www.pageflakes.com/bronzetrinity/10225018. Subscribe to hair blogs because there are very few magazines you can get about natural hair and the internet sites are free and interactive. YouTube is great because there are many tutorial videos. You can ask the video posters questions too. I also signed up for an account on Fotki.com (my name is Bronzey) so that I could post my hair photos and see other people's photos. I think it really helped to be in contact with other transitioning and natural women so that you can get advice and support. Without that I would have never been able to do this.

More "How I Did It" stories
How I did it: I cut off the relaxed hair after 6 weeks. I've had a TWA and was natural for 7 years before I got another relaxer in 2007. I asked my mom to braid my hair and I unbraided it and wore it to my ten year high school reunion. Everyone loved it. I Read how I did it…

How I did it: I had my sister cut my hair in stages, which prepared me for the big chop. First she cut off about 4 inches of hair then a month later she cut off another inch. After a month of wearing my hair in braids I was ready to take the plunge and cut off the remaining 3 inches of relaxed hair. Read how I did it…

How I did it: I grew out my relaxer for 9 months, and then cut off the relaxed ends. It was totally worth it. My hair has never been healthier. I'll never put another chemical in my hair again. Read how I did it…

got2luvthecurls getting used to my new hair
I’ve always contemplated this but never got the re-assurance and moral support that I thought I needed in order to go through with it. Well it’s been years since I’ve attempted to transition my hair and I’m finally going to get it right. Forget about the whole transition phase, it gives me too much time to think about a relaxer again, so later on today I’m doing the big chop. And I am excited but nervous as well. I know I look good with short hair, it’s just the whole going natural part that I’ve never done before. Soooo I’ve been researching alot on this and I hope this is a new avenue for me and my hair. I’ve got everything else in order, health etc, except for my hair and I believe this is going to be it for me. My husband is totally on board and actually he has been telling me for years that he wishes I would stop relaxing my hair and go natural, so here we go! I’ll defnitely be cataloging this experience, my last relaxer was about 4 weeks ago so a chop chopping I go.
I feel like I’m one of the few Caucasians in this situation, so it gets pretty frustrating sometimes. Styling it has been really difficult. But my last Chi straightening treatment was in early January, so I’ve been transitioning for seven months now! Go me! Sometimes I wonder if I’m doing the right thing, because I hated my hair so much before I started straightening it, but I think that now that I’m older I’ll know how to take better care of it and be proud of being different, instead of just wishing I looked like everyone else.
dsd1972 is single AGAIN?!??! WTH?
I permed my hair for the last time on Saturday, December 5, 2008. I’ve read that I don’t need to make the “big chop” but I’m not sure where I’ll begin once I have more natural hair than permed hair. So far, it’s manageable because I go to salons run by Dominican stylists. They’re notorious for transitioning natural hair.
The Truth: Like I'm out the mouths of Babes thinks it is so cool that I still get cheers even though I never log i
no more perm. I am officially a natural chica (that will weave/wig it up once in a while.) I am happy with it. I can’t say that I will never relax it again, it’s hair I’ll do what I want with it. It is so much easier to wash and go.
Also, I am on a mission to get rid of things that were no longer serving me. One of these things was the hair :)
I’m trying the same thing. I had a friend who freed herself from relaxing her hair. She didn’t chop off any hair. She told me the key to stopping the breakage while growing her hair out was to keep the virgin hair as moisturized as possible. I just have a hard time doing that because my hair is naturally dry. Any suggestions?

On March 24th I cut off the remaining 3 inches of my relaxed hair. Now my hair is 100% natural hair and I love it!!! Even better, Mr. Wonderful absolutely adores my little teeny weeny afro. YIPPY!!
Well I’ve had my relaxer for quite some time now, I decided….I just can’t take it anymore! No more Chemicals!! I’m going natural…I’m blogging about the process on my blog http://alnaturalhair.wordpress.com
I just started transisting with my little curly hair. I can’t wait to grow my relaxer out. This is going to totally rock. I was natural for 6 years then I went back to the relaxer but I’m proud to say I will be happy to be nappy in 9 months.
