Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

cyberpunkdreamsThis has gone out of the window...

but maybe I’ll try it tomorrow. 7 years ago

cyberpunkdreamsI've made some fairly significant decisions

about my life and work over the last week or so. I think my first task for tomorrow has got to get everything out and onto paper so I can push forward with stuff. It’s a lot of case of clearing the books as quickly as possible. 7 years ago

cyberpunkdreamsI've been generally disorganised

where it comes to work recently, and the brain dumps have slipped (cause or effect?). I’ll do one this week of everything I need to get done before the end of the month. 7 years ago

cyberpunkdreamsMore brain dumps!

I’ve tasked myself with clearing my books by the end of the month, so that will require a bit of planning… and a brain dump would be a most auspicious place to start, methinks. 7 years ago

cyberpunkdreamsBrain dumps are good!

I’ll do one tomorrow. They realy help me get a grip on what I’m doing and what I have to do. 7 years ago

The brain dumping’s generally going quite well. It doesn’t happen every Monday, but I don’t think that really matters, as it’s happening at its own rate of usefulness. I might tick this off soon. 7 years ago

I’ve not been doing this every Monday, especially with the Christmas break and everything, but when I do do it, I find it very useful. I don’t think I need to force myself to do it every Monday though; the desire to do it kind of arises whenever it would be useful, so I don’t feel the need for pressure.

I won’t take this goal off yet though… 7 years ago

I haven’t been doing it properly in general (perhaps once a week is too much). I did have a much more focused one last Monday though, looking at things I need to do before I go away for Christmas. That went really well. 8 years ago

I think every Monday is perhaps a bit often for this, but I’ll leave it as every Monday, as that keeps me doing it more often than I would if I said every other Monday or something.

I also need to work this into my existence system more effectively. 8 years ago

Well, I forgot a couple of weeks ago, but I did it last Tuesday. And I’ll do it again tomorrow. 8 years ago

cyberpunkdreamsI don't particular like the phrase 'brain dump'

but just give it a name. I need to get everything out of my head and onto paper every Monday, is the idea. 8 years ago
