Wow! Great job everyone!! Thanks for posting your pictures. I hope to see everyone here again next year. :) 6 years ago
Not “the best pumpkin carving ever,” but I think they look pretty cool. Actually “borrowed” this idea from my friend joemono. 6 years ago
This is supposed to be the first pattern I posted, with the grave and the trees and an owl.
The owl fell into the pumpkin. So he was transfered to the pile of guts for the puking pumpkin. Couldn’t get the branches to come out right. So now it’s just a moon and a grave. Stil kinda scary. 6 years ago
This is a picture I found while searching pumpkin patterns/stencils.
Here’s the real pumpkin. 6 years ago
Okay, I have 3 really good pumpkins to carve this year.
My carvings are… the puking it’s guts out pumpkin {posted on previous entry}, this night scene pattern {picture is of the pattern, not actual pumpkin} and probably the Black Pearl from Pirates.
Cause I love that movie. 6 years ago
Thought I’d share this with my fellow carvers…
The legend of the Jack-O’-Lantern comes from Ireland from about the 18th century. With some variations the basis of the Jack-O’-Lantern is as follows:
There was a stingy drunkard of an Irishman named Jack; who tricked the Devil into climbing an apple tree. Then Jack quickly cut the sign of a cross into the trunk of the tree; thereby preventing the Devil from climbing down. Jack made the Devil swear that he wouldn’t ever come after Jack’s soul again or claim it in any way. However, this did not stop Jack from dying and when he did he was not allowed into Heaven, because of his life of drinking, being tightfisted and being deceitful. And because of the oath the Devil had taken Jack was not allowed into Hell either. “But where can I go?” asked Jack. “Back where you came from!” replied the Devil. The way back was windy and dark. The Devil, as a final gesture, threw a live coal at Jack straight from the fire of Hell. To light his way and to keep it from blowing out in the wind Jack put it in a turnip he was eating. Ever since Jack and his “lantern” has been traveling over the face of the earth looking for a place to rest.
The moral of the story: Don’t mess with the devil. 6 years ago
Haha I really tried my best. Really.
I am ashamed.
Although….
I could have made a holy Jesus Halloween pumpkin.

Ahahaha no lie, JESUS.
Once again, I am sorry. 6 years ago
Here’s my effort… Not sure it’s ‘The Best Pumpkin Carving 43Things Has Ever Seen’ though.
Happy Halloween carvers! 6 years ago
I thought it came out pretty good. Not as good as the one I saw with Shreik but still I followed the pattern, traced it, folded the paper like it says, used a push pin for the detail around the cape and horse’s mane. When the lights are out it looks real sharp. Even the shadow details look pretty good. So what do you think for a rough amateur? 6 years ago
I like to carve mine the old fashioned way, cutting free-form and letting the pumpkin’s “face” emerge on its own. 6 years ago
We’re getting close to Halloween
I’m thinking about having a carvin’ party. Or we could carve as part of my halloween party. 6 years ago
and only one celebration to use them. Maybe I should just get carving! 6 years ago
We had a feminist pumpkin carving Meet-up and only three of us showed up, Grrrrrrrr. :(
Anyway, the hardest part by far was removal of the pumpkin crud! seeds and all after cuting off the top of the gourd. Next, was the taping of the stencils, Marie did a scary ghost, Omni did a franskenstein face and I did a large spider. Not all the photos came out and will try and post the ones that did. Actually, if I can do this, anyone can. All you do is visit an arts & craft shop, and pick up a pumpkin carving kit, comes with cheap plastic utensils (but they really work) and a number of good stencils, or you can download them. Tape the stencil you want to use, decide what areas get removed and which ones will remain. Start poking holes around the stencil outline, and remove pieces as you go. The kit comes with a small saw to remove pumkin pieces that ar cut and for trimming corners. I think they all came out pretty well. It does take a long time per pumpkin carving though.

Now what to carve? Only 17 days until Halloween. 6 years ago
Time to get serious and start thinking about what I might carve this year…Still need to pick out the victim, errrr, I mean pumpkin. 6 years ago
Last year, I had an awesome pumpkin. It kinda looked like the one Shakespeare posted, with a house and a witch. Plus mine had a moon and a bat, I think.
I want to do that one again, plus a different one. I’m not sure how many I’ll do this year. We grew our own pumpkins, so we’ll have plenty.
Already three have been picked, but it’s to soon to start the carvin’. 6 years ago
I thought it would be fun to have a pumpkin carving showcase on 43Things…Want to join?
Here’s a picture of my pumpkin from last year! 6 years ago
